Default 2005 S-Type 3.0

My fuel gauge doesnt read full which leads me to think it is the fuel sending unit. I was wondering does the fuel sending units from all 2003-2008 S-types work or only specific years. Does anyone know where to get a cheap aftermarket one? I also have code P0456 Small evap leak, which when inspecting the fuel pump and fuel sender retaining rings I noticed the fuel pump ring was fully tightened together with both sides touching and the fuel sender ring had approx 1/2 in space from touching which I assume is causing the car to throw the code. I was wondering if I have to use that specific retainer ring or if I could use the retiner rings for the Lincoln LS that are fully enclosed and do not require a strap around it.

I might be wrong, but I believe those seals were recalled for the 2005 model year. (Someone please confirm this though.)

Go here:
2005 Jaguar S-Type Recalls & Problems - Motor Trend Magazine

and click on "full details" for Recall ID # 63572 (the last one) and read the details.

thanks for the reply. Supposively according to the carfax the previous owner had the tank replaced, so I was wondering if the pumps were the same and if so if I could use the white rings that are on most of the s-types

mike, Sal and you are both correct: There was a recall for leaking tank and the Lincoln LS shares many parts with the Jag...not too sure about fuel tank, etc.? If your tank was replaced how'd this loose ring-a-ma-thing come about?

Not sure exactly how it came about. I got the evap code then checked the rings. It's almost impossible to find a replacement retaining ring that is the kind I have so I prefer to use the fully enclosed type, hope it will work
