Beauty Panel Fastners

Anyone out there know what they call those little rubber fastners / grommets that hold the beauty panel on to the blower?

When I changed out the intake today I noticed 2 were missing 1 was torn and only 1 was holding the panel in place...

Part Number or name anyone??

cbharley10 01-21-2013 02:54 PM

Bump... Anyone...

tbird6 01-21-2013 03:08 PM

I don't have access right now but does the JEPC show them seperate? They might only come as an assembly with the cover?

I didnt see them broken out seperately, but maybe I am missing something...

I am HOPING that they can be had seperately, hate to lose the whole beauty panel over 4 rubber grommets...

my .02...... having had the car since new I was responsible for breaking mine...fast forward to now they are still broken ;) panel just sits down on top of the blower and has never moved for me, irritating that they are broken though

Boy you made me dig for that one!!

It looks like they don't break the fasteners out. So I don't think you can get them separately. Unless maybe a tech can add something??

I always take silly parts like this off my cars. I'm not scared of seeing a motor or supercharger.

I figure less chance of it breaking just sitting on my shelf, then put it back on when I sell the car.

I'm not sure about these particular fasteners, but the plastic retainers and push pins for the under-wiper scuttle and over-headlights panel can be found online at northlandfasteners.biz. Jaguar fasteners are found under "Metric Push-on Retainers--Ford." There is no "Make-Model-Year" listing---you have to slog through the pictures of the retainers. Good Luck.

You'll never find those stupid things if you look only under S-Type. In the other models, you can find two, one is taller than the other.
NJA6790CC is the part listed for the first generation S-Type, there was a Parts Bulletin way back when, when they figured out it wasn't in the catalogue. If you look under the X308, you will find it and the other number, NJA6790BC, that's the taller one. I believe the supercharged engine cover uses the tall one.

Edit:
I have since found out this is incorrect. The 4.2L SC does in fact use the short grommet [
NJA6790CC] for the engine cover, as does the first generation S-Type 4.0L. See the later post.

Nice of them to be so cryptic, huh??

Good information! I thought only a factory tech would know the details!

Yea I am picky about that stuff myself. The panel over the headlights always gets the little fasteners screwed up so I just keep them in stock now. Since they are Ford parts no problem getting them.

xjrguy - YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

I have looked until my eyes are bleeding trying to find those stupid little rubber grommets!!

We need to get this one added to the official parts list as I am quite certain I am not the only one who needs these replaced!

Cheers!

Yes that is a very obscure part and we would never find it in the S Type stuff as mentioned.

Just purchased 4 new ones from Terrys Jaguar Parts (terrysjag.com)

http://www.terrysjag.com/product/NJA6790BC.html

$4.32 each shipping is a bit harsh at $14 bucks, but I am just happy to find these things! What an elusive part!!

Okay so I took a shot in the dark on this one - there is very limited documentation out there covering these so there was a 50/50 shot... Needless to say I got the wrong 50%

Anyone looking to replace the beauty panel grommets on their STR or other engine with a plastic beauty panel. I just found out rather expensively that the tall part DOES NOT fit through the openings on the panel and the one I did mange to fit through is too tall to let the panel sit flat!

Instead if you are looking to replace yours you will need the shorter ones:

Part Number:
NJA6790CC

Well, sh** CB....... please accept my apologies for steering you wrong! I went back and re-checked the notes that had been put in the parts catalog. Obviously someone goofed when they added the comment about the 4.2L SC. I have corrected that, and confirmed myself that the tall grommets are actually used in the normally aspirated 4.0L XK8 and XJ8 engine covers. The two rear grommets [on each side] are the tall ones, and the single front grommet is the short one that is COMMON with the 4.2L SC cover and the early S-Type 4.0L cover as in the parts bulletin I posted.

Geez, what a mess........

Again, terribly sorry for the error. Especially since I'm usually one that is cautioning folks to be accurate with respect to models, model years etc.

My turn to stand in the corner...... :icon_gunhead:

Hey man! No harm, No foul... Like I said it was a 50/50 shot. I have re-ordered teh smaller ones and am hoping they will get here before the weekend.

I wouldnt have even found the part numbers to start looking for them without your assitance so for that I am most appreciative sir!

Once I get the right ones and get them fitted, I will send some photos of the parts and the fitted beauty panel!

Thanks!!
