Default 'Bentley' grill on S-type

I know some people hate the fake 'bentley' grill on any other car but a Bentley. Others hate to see or discuss any modification on cars (read:Jags).

I myself quite like the 'Bentley' grill and to be honest I don't even want to call them as such. To me they're just a different typ of grill.

I have seen cheapish mesh inserts on eBay and would like know if some of you have any experiences with them. This one in particular draws my attention:

S Type Jaguar Grille Stainless Steel Woven Grill mesh insert 1999 - 2002 | eBay

Are these any good? I know they are quite cheap, but I am on a budget myself. That's why I have a 1999 Jaguar and not 2009 one.

To be honest I never made the connection between Bentley and the S-type mesh grill - it is after all, a Jaguar option.

But for me the best "look" has been achieved by another French resident on his 'S' where he has chromed up the slatted grill; put a Leaper on the bonnet but the 'coup de gras' is the chrome strip which goes up the middle of the bonnet.

The ensemble looks just beautiful - very evocative of the first S-type but with a modern touch.

Cheers
Dave

I always saw a mesh grill as a sign of a 'performance' model. Such is the case for the S-Type R.

Pretty much just an STR grill for the early model S Types.

I think it looks fine. I added the Mina stainless mesh lower grill to my 2005 STR instead of the cheap black plastic stock ones.

There's every chance that other people were doing it before Bentley anyway. With the right kind of mesh on the right coloured car, and fitted nicely, they look good - but like any other "styling"option, done badly they look completely pants.

Actually all the 2008 US S-Types came standard with the mesh type grille, so it's hardly doing a "Bentley". Plus even the non-STR 2008s all came with the STR-style front facia, and the formerly STR-only Vulcan wheels (but only in the front wheel size).
