Its under the coolant top hose drivers side .

 

Does anyone have a picture of where the coolant temp sensor is in a 2005 supercharged S-type 4.2L V8

Hi, I've changed mine a few times and you would think I would learn.
I've had my x300 for about ten years, a couple of times it has thrown out a bad sensor code. As they are fairly cheap I have picked a replacement up and changed it. Ive actually made enquires if these sensors are supposed to be a ware item.? (Maybe something to do with buying Cheap replacements maybe)

My advice on fitting one and why I say you'd think I would learn, is to not to over tighten them. I've done this a couple of times and had to get some vice grips out to remove it, in order to fit a new new sensor The issue is that the top plastic part you put your ring spanner on, easily starts to turn independently of the sensor once it bottoms out. You then can't remove it or know if it's still patent internally.
Id Suggest to tighten it just over finger tight once the washer and sensor have formed a seal.
