EZ lip on Jaguar STR. What do you guys think?
3 Attachment(s)
I purchased this car originally from Chicago a year ago and the previous owner scratched lower parts of the front bumper cover. So I tried to cover that up and had EZ lip installed few months ago. So far so good. Went through few car washes. There is no flopping at high speeds and I think it gives this car a little more sportier look. Oh, and I also got Mina 1.7 pulley upgrade which is also a lot of fun.

Hmm not sure. kinda like it though. where did you get it from?
|
It def gives the front end a sporty look. Nice Red Caps on the wheels, goes well with red brembos.

Nice add on. If we had an STR I would definetly have one. Hell I might just add it anyways.
Thanks for sharing. |
Adhesive fit? I think not.
But I'd sure like to to have a quality bolt/screw on version. The repairs to fix the front cover when it gets cracked or torn is not cheap. A sacrificial piece is a great idea. |
Eh, I think the high strength adhesive can work well here. Much like many spoilers are stick on.
|
Hmmmm....this E-Z lip is kinda growing on me/us.
|
The lip came with 3M adhesive tape on one side which is actually enough to hold it in place. But I also used 7 stainless steel screws to make sure that it would stay secure. Painted them flat black so it wouldn't be noticeable when looking underneath. Overkill possibly, but I didn't want to take any chances.

Just playing devil's advocate here
I did see this from another very similar kit.
Untitled Document If it's that flexible I have to wonder if the ends where it terminates at the wheel well opening aren't going to just sag or go out of shape? It seems to do just that in that photo with the green wheel. |
I would also be concerned about this lip becoming a dirt & grime trap on any car that rides as low to the ground as the S-Type typically does....
|
It's the parking block stops that I want it to catch & warn me about.
I wonder what an actual splitter style lip would look like on there? |
Ya the only true lip we have is the Arden one and that is $1200

Don't get me wrong guys, I love to have a carbon fiber lip on my jag. But due to unavailability, price, and chance of breaking and scratching it, I just have to do with this version. This lip is made of flexible, rubber like material, so when hitting parking blocks its just bounces back without any damage. In the worst case, I'll just replace it again next year. Its just $30 bucks.

Also, 03Jagg I have to say it again. Your STR is among the nicest color schemes out there. I love the muted silver/black look with just a touch of red.

That looks great!! I was just going to do that! Thanks for doing it first LOL. I need to know where you got your rotors and what pads your running. Do you notice a difference? Have you found a two piece rotor or do you have any suggestion for break set up other than what you have. My stock brembo's are warped and make a tone of dust.
|
Hey, Candy. I got my cross-drilled rotors, front and rear from "Brake performance.com". The brake pads that I'm currently using are Akebono Euro Ceramic and I got them from Amazon.com. As far as performance difference, braking feel and distance is about the same as stock. No loud noise from pads or rotors either when braking. I love these pads because there is NO MORE DUST, so they're excellent. Upgrading to bigger brakes will require a bigger calipers and rotors, and brake pads. So something like this probably would be available from Baer or Stoptech or Brembo. It would be expensive like more than $1k and probably would require for you to run a bigger diameter wheel. Of course you can upgrade to S type R brakes but there is just too much stuff to switch out and again probably would be expensive unless you would buy a wrecked STR.

The adhesive is very strong. I have had the lip on for over a year now, in all weather conditions including snow, it still looks great and is well attached.
|
Appearance wise it looks good. As a perfectionist for function over form, it probably goes against the wind tunnel testing done by Jaguar but who cares. I say keep it on.
|
So far after having it on for a year, the rubber is still attached, no rips, not faded, doesn't really collect any dirt. My brother calls it "garage door sweeper", lol
|
Thank you for sharing pics of your EZ Lip. I just recently had the OEM lip tear off on a parking block so I am ordering my EZ Lip today, will update with pics after I get it and install it.

Your cars sick !

03Jagg, what did you have done to you wheels? I love the color and think that color would look good on my white STR.
|
I was getting my quarter panel fixed at a BMW dealership for my Jag and a paint guy told me that they paint wheels there. So they remove the tires from the rims, prep them, paint them in a color that you want, then remount and balance the wheels. I think I paid $400 for everything, but the price could vary. So far after a year, the finish is still perfect.
|
They look very nice. Any idea on what color the paint is? I like that its not real dark, but still has a nice clean look.
Edit: after looking back at the picture it looks like they are the same color as your car.

My car is silver and the wheels are light gunmetal gray. No particular color code was used.

thanks 03jagg! great idea for an alternative lip , i would love a mina lip but the price is ridicules , $1450nzd shipped . no thanks and ill wipe it off in 10mins flat .
i just put one of these ez-lips on mine for $55nzd . for no other reason than for looks , and in my eyes it looks great . i made 13 flat alloy retainers plates and riveted them up sandwiching the ez-lip up , as well as the 3m tape. should hold up fine if not these are cheep to re do . also stuck a roof wing on the rear window . i quite like that to ! ill get some day light shots when i get a chance ! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...2e40db73aa.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...078660a5bd.jpg |
Funny how some of these older threads surface, when you have an idea, and think it's a new one.
Nice touch, I'd say, and a great idea to add pop rivets ( I probably haven't used a rivet gun in over 10 years, so it's a good excuse). Would love to see what a rear window spoiler looks like on a "S". The stock one on the boot of a STR is small, yet tasteful (that's another thread). |
