Just wondering how many of you out there with beyond-the-factory-warranty S-Types are still running your factory battery. We are, and I'm wondering what to expect as our geographic area heads toward the winter months. Climate and routine care both play a part in helping a battery last longer, of course, but many original batteries across all manufacturing lines are designed to get the vehicle through the warranty period and not much longer. Guess I should place a set of jumper cables in our S-Type's trunk just in case....

Jon, I believe that Joyces is still original.
I wonder though, with all the sensitive electronics in our vehicles, is it wise to jump these cars? If so is there a certain procedure one should follow?

In my daily driver at 10 years old (112,000) it still has the original battery. I top it off occasionally and that is it.
Crap maybe I should remove this *edit.

Rick,

You are correct about being careful when jumping the S-Type. Our owners manual devotes several pages on exactly what steps to follow when doing so. Do you have the owners manual?
