Finally got my ride
Hey everyone... I already posted to the new member forum, but just wanted to say hello to my "Home" forum. I've been searching for an XK for about a year and finally took delivery. It was a bit of a stressful transaction. I purchased the car from a dealship in FL and had it shipped up to NJ. Car arrived in decent shape with only a few issues. Its a 2011 with 48,180 miles on it, with the factory 5/50 warranty up in March. Car will be our "weekender" backup to my 2013 Subaru Outback. I have not had a chance to go to the DMV yet, so car has not been fully road tested by me.
I have lots of questions, but will start off with this...
Since the factory warranty expiration is approaching what do you folks recommend I check out *before* taking to the local dealer for its last covered visit? The only issue I have seen is some worn weatherstripping on the drivers side. Battery was low on arrival, but took a full charge (Jag battery dated 2013). Nav disc is missing so I couldn't test it. Will the dealer inspect all potential service issue, or do i need to specifically ask to check brake pads, battery etc?
Thanks - Sean

I have the East Coast Nav DVD sitting on my desk as I'm a West Coast sort of guy. I'll sell it to ya for half of what I paid for both of them in July, if'n yer interested.
Congrats on owning one of the best cars ever made!
Also, set up your Post Signature so say what ya got, AND get a CTEK Battery Maintainer.

Welcome and congrats.
I suggest you check out the water pump for leaks and hose leaks and the super charger for making a noise that sounds like a bunch of loose bolts. With 48,000 miles these 2 known design flaws should be fully inspected. Keep in mind there is no water temperature gauge on the car, only a warning light if high water temperature is detected. The water pump has been an issue with some members and a number of revisions have been made. You don't want to fry your engine out of warranty. Have the dealer thoroughly inspect your water pump and give you what version you may have on your car. If your dealer says it is the original. It has a design flaw and you may want to have it replaced with the newest version.

Hey DGL. No supercharger to worry about... just a plain old XK. I have read about the water pump. Can I easily inspect myself to check for leaks by removing the engine cover? I don't think there is a recall on part, so I'm guessing they won't do a pre-emptive replacement. I will ask them to check the part # if possible.

hmmm... Im not sure the non supercharged XK's had the water pump issue.. does anyone know? My 2012 XKR had the water pump, supercharger, AND timing chain tensioners all replaced this summer at 25,000 miles. First noted a rattle at startup - timing chain tensioners went bad (somewhat rare on this XK), then that rattle went away after a few seconds to a few bolts/marbles kicking around in the supercharger (they replaced it as there was some sheering of the blades!)... finally they had to take the top of the engine off to get to the supercharger and noted the water pump leaking - replaced under warranty.
