Minimum set of fuses, relays to run the car?

Hello,

I am trouble shooting an electrical short problem. What are the minimum set of fuses and relays to run the car?

Fuel injectors, fuel pump, starter, coil, ecu.

Does PCM (power train control module) refer to the ECU?

Many thanks.

Car details? - we'll need the lot.

ECU is an older term which confusing has E=Electronic or E=Engine. PCM is standard, though Jaguar tend to use ECM.

You'll need to power a LOT of things or get some scary codes / immobilised / etc.

If you have a dealer-type tool such as Mongoose JLR you'll have more chance of at least clearing them.

If you upset it and get into anti-theft you're going to need that dealer tool or a tow :(

Is it a short or just a drain? If the latter, I'd leave everything powered and start by checking voltage across each fuse, engine running, engine off (key out), and again after 40 mins. Expect mV but only 0 if really isn't powered. By all means remove a few non-essential items but there aren't as many as people tend to guess.

Other things to check: any aftermarket items, water in boot (trunk), water dripping onto PCM (it's behind glove box).

Hello,

The car is a 2000 s-type V8, VIN SAJDA01D9YGL39635, 47K miles on it.

I am chasing a problem that keeps blowing fuses 4 and 20 in the passenger compartment fuse box.

Thanks again.

Do you have the electrical guide so you know what is on those circuits?

Thank you for replying. I have the wiring diagram for model year 2003, I hope it is similar to 2000.

I will update the trouble shooting effort in the below thread, since the title is more appropriate.

There is a lot of difference between the 2000 and the 2003 S Type. You should be able to get the early electrical information on this site?
