I have a 2000 S Type with 185,000, and it had a drained battery. I bought a new one, and it was fine for a few days, then dead again. Put the charger on the new battery, and it has 12 volts if disconnected from the car, and 3 volts if hooked up. The car is completely powerless currently. Any Ideas?

Severe short circuit somewhere. Disconnect the battery to avoid a fire.
