Other than the fire extinguisher, no. The S-Type and X-Type are very different so just go to the correct forum.

Well, the only common thing between the X and S are the engines. The 2.5 was available in the S in other markets outside the US and Canada (I think). The 3.0 was in both cars as well. I'm pretty sure the 3.0 application in the X Type used the dual runner intake that was used in the S Type. In that application there is a valve that opens/closes the runners called the IMT-valve (Intake Manifold Tuning). That valve has o-rings that seal it to the manifold. Those o-rings are known to leak oil that pools in the bottom of the intake from the PCV blow by that is recirculated into the intake.

I bring this up because one of the symptoms of leaking IMT o-rings is a burning smell in the vents (first hand experience there). Since you heard a noise before the smoke and smell, I would definitely go to the X Type section and ask for their help as well.....
