What's best to change for tune up
For a 2001 s type 3.0 what is best for a tune up? What parts do you guys recommended to change to get better performance? What type of spark plugs should i get and is it recommended i change all coils?
Given the age of the vehicle, and without knowing the number of miles, it is probably best to replace the cam cover and spark plug boss gaskets with original Jaguar parts and replace the spark plugs with quality ones matching OE requirements. Other members of this forum recommend certain brands such as NGK, but I personally have not had good experiences with that particular brand of spark plugs, so that is a decision you must make.
The air and fuel filters should also be replaced as part of this type of service if they have not been recently replaced.
In order to remove the RH (Bank 1) coils and spark plugs, the upper inlet manifold must be removed. If it has not been replaced, the breather hose under the lower inlet manifold should be replaced along with the o-rings on both inlet manifold (IMT) valves. Care must be taken when moving any of the plastic pipes as they become brittle with age and can easily break or crack. If there is evidence of oil contamination on the coil units, it is probably best to replace them, especially on Bank 1.
When ordering parts, particularly for the inlet manifold gaskets, provide the VIN as the gasket design was changed and the two designs are not interchangeable.
You can also download the JTIS workshop manual from this site at no cost. Look in the 'stickies' section for other useful information.
