Default Interior blue bulb replacement - Soldered

Hi Guys, The other day I posted about replacing the door switch bulb. It was pretty easy, just a twist in bayonet mount.

The thing is, I have (had) 2 bulbs burned out and purchased two of the $12 dollar bayonet mount blue bulbs. Turns out that the bulb inside the Sport switch is soldered to the circuit board, no bayonet mount here.

For those of you who have tackled this, where does one get the blue bulb with a bare wire connection for soldering? Do we have to somehow disconnect the plastic bayonet mount from a perfectly good bulb? If so I'd love to hear how you do it.

When I pulled the burned out door switch bulb from its bayonet mount I did notice exposed solder connections on the bottom of the mount. Funny thing is that both of the replacement bulbs have no evidence of solder in view, that's why I asked how once gets the bulb out of the plastic mounting if that's the way to do it. I didn't want to go experimenting on such an expensive bulb, so I better ask.

Thanks for your help, I'd love to get this one done and over with. Every time I drive her at night I look and think "oh yeah I've got to get to that one."

John

Johnken, I recently replaced several instruments bulbs including the Cruise, Sport and roof switch and J-gate on my 2006 XKR. The switches may be the same as your year. For the switches I ordered NTT AT611-12V bulbs from Mouser Electronics. They were $1.88 each. I think these bulbs had the blue condoms on them as well so you have to gently pry those off and reuse them on the new bulbs. they fit these bulbs nicely. It helps if you have a desoldering tool ("solder sucker") to unsolder the old bulbs. Here are some pictures of the top side showing the bulb and the bottom of the PC board.. The switches come apart easily just gently pry the sides away from the 4 little catches on the case. I have a couple of extra bulbs from my project if you just need one send me a PM.

Here is the replacement NTT bulb next to the old one

You will need to unsolder the two joints here.

The roof, Cruise and Sport switch are all built with similar cases pry apart the case where the 4 tabs are (seen as holes in the case here)

Bill, are you sure this was Mouser ? I can't find it. Mind if I ask you to verify the part number ?

Any pointers are appreciated, thanks.

Johnken,
It is Mouser.com but I mistyped the part number, my apologies. It is a NKK part - AT611-12V, the full mouser part number is 633-AT611-12V.
Here is a link to it:

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...2f6y7muM3iY%3d

My apologies for steering you wrong on that. I'll try to edit my post for future reference.

That's OK Bill. Now I've got number and can order 2day. Thanks mate. You get credit for finding it in the first place.
