My Wife's last Car, a BMW 135is had Run-Flats. It rode like a Skateboard anyway, so they made it worse. Not unlike Her F-Type, it was her DD involving Freeway, so it did give me peace of mind.

The F-Type has a much more compliant ride, so I'm probably the only one here that would look into run-flats the next time around. Does anyone think it would be possible?

 

If you have 18" or 19" wheels it is possible (not available in the proper 20" sizes). However, ride quality will be harsher, and performance will be compromised. Stick with the cell phone and AAA card.

 

I, too, have the optional enhanced trunk space (ie, no spare). If you haven't seen what a spare does to your storage, check out Clarkson's Top Gear review on YouTube.
Run-flat tires have their own problems and don't belong on a performance car.

Stay with the goop and throw in a plug kit for good measure. No worries.

 

Took a 1/4" bolt/lag screw to one of my back tires 2 weeks after I got the car. Tire was trashed but Jaguar roadside was awesome! Took a screw to the other back tire a week later. Again, Jaguar roadside was awesome and tire was patchable. Put a proper plug kit in the car and haven't had a flat since.

 

A corollary to Murphy's Law.

 

Bring back inner tubes ;-)

 

Guess I'm just old skool that way. My 17 year old C43 has a full sized spare! And not having a jack or tire iron kinda freeeks me out (man.)
But I guess that is what roadside assistance is for, provided (as OP pointed out) you have cell service. Will get a flat repair kit & throw it in the back hatch. Thanks folks.

I guess Chevrolet didn't get the memo. The Corvette has been available with runflats since 1994. I would venture to say that both my 2006 Corvette and my 2017 Z06 qualify as performance cars and they both run ZP tyres as factory installed items. For a street car, the peace of mind knowing you can continue should you get a puncture is worth it.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I should say we closed and the F is in the garage. I appreciate all the real world comments. The F will probably not get very far from home and the advice that the lack of a spare should not be a real problem is probably correct. But I am still not going to take it through West Texas. I must say it takes a bit of getting use to the lack of features that I had become accustomed to with the XK8. Would a home link have been that bad. The dealer tells me there is a 109K S on the lot and it doesn't have a home link either. But I am pleased with the purchase. The F has very limited competition.

 

Real world- had a 911 was out in western Jersey hit a bolt and shredded a rear tire- NO cell service in this area- even with it on a fridaty afternoon NO one was going to get me tire til Monday! Fortunately I had my donut and somewhere along the line I was told to always carry a boxcutter and plastic bag- cut off the tire and stowed the rim- it fit w/o the tire- I always get the spare

 

Real World - took the F-type for a driving tour of the Arkansas Ozarks & ended up with a 1/2 slice in the sidewall of the rear tire.

I have a vert with 20" wheels. There is no way the rear wheel will fit in the boot of a convertible F (so the box cutter idea is a good one to remember - thanks!).

Anyway goop won't fix the sidewall.

There were no 295/30/20 tires in all of Arkansas - even the only Jag Dealer in the state (Little Rock) didn't have the tire.

So I had to find an alternative tire that would fit a 20" x 10.5" wheel & have a flat bed tow the car to the tire shop to fit an odd-ball sized tire that would work. Just FYI, the tow hooks are reverse threaded if you can't figure out why they won't fit.

 

True. And the rear one should never be used for towing (technically 'vehicle recovery'), only use the front one.

The dealer is supposed to discard the rear (black) tow hook, but a number of us received it anyway.
