No ones mentioned 'Star Locking Washers' Any good?

Over the years I've seen some cars with internal tooth or external tooth lock washers on the fan clutch. The fan wasn't planted into the radiator so I guess they're OK

I've also seen some fan clutches mounted with nuts that are serrated on the clamping side. Those seem OK, too.

When you say "Star Locking Washers" I think of the little press-on goodies that typically press onto a little peg to hold something in place.

Hmm, that nomenclature thing. Star washers in my lexicon, at times much different from the rest of the galaxy, is Doug's internal tooth description. I gotta say, his is better....

I do like those "internal tooth" devices to secure nuts and bolts.

that is what was/is on mine. I am repainting mine at this time and that is what is going back on...
now are you talking about the Fan to the clutch or the Fan Cowl to the car?
and the brackets to the car #5 is avil for the 6.0 at 0.30 pounds? (look the same to me)
the sealing strips, are no longer avil. so I went to Wal-Mart and and a good look at where the window air-cond, are and found a great replacement that looked like the original (though new)
I took a u channel al piece and used it in the middle of the cowl strips in the inside to grip the cowl and a strip facing the new AL. radiator to seal and protect it.

I had no rattles and the nuts (nylock) stayed tight... I just was a jerk and used .99cent paint I had on my shelf... (I knew the heat would get it and a year later when I lost the alternator belt figured I should take it all out and do it with the right paint...

Hi Jonathan

Cheers!

I know where everything else goes and what Bolts to use, except for bolting the Fan Clutch to the Engine Boss.

As I do not want the Fan to come off and then knock a hole in my Rad.

I was thinking of using Spring Washers but the ones with the Teeth might grip better but there is nowhere near me that sells them.

None of the Car Accessory Shops even sell UNF Bolts, so I may have to do a 40 mile Trip just to pick up a couple of Cents worth of lock washers.

Thanks for the Drawing, that was good of you to send that,

After looking at my fan, OB, I noticed: I don't even have nylocs there! Just standard nuts with some star washers. I didn't consider them to be loose as I removed it all a few years back

Hi XJSV12

They are the ones I wanted but none of the Stores near me has these for sale, the only place that I can get them is about 40 Miles away.

So if it comes to that I'll also stock up, on all the other nuts and bolts I made need in the future.

Hi Daim

Its really annoying that none of the Car Accessory Shops near me stock stuff like that.

But since I may have to go to a Specialist Supplier, I'll also get a Selection of some of the other Sizes while I'm about it.

Do you know what Nut goes on the Top of the Ball Joint on the Track Rod ends?

They should be, depending on if you have metric or imperial 19mm. If metric of course 19 mm. You should have a late rack so it will be metric.

I find a lot of stuff that neatly and properly translates at my local hardware store.

Default No worries

The annoying way it is designed is a safe gaurd against it letting lose on to the radiator.

all the nuts would have to come loose at the same time

as it is you have back each one out a little and move to the next to get the thing off

Hi Jonathan

That is such a mega kind and generous offer but I've found a place that sells them not too far away, although I had a job to track them down.

As of now I've got a choice of Two Fans, one of which I made myself by cutting down the Blades on an almost New Fan, that I took of a Scrap XJ6.

Since it doesn't have the deep dish that the Original has, I've got hold of a Spacer to make up the shortfall in the distance from the dish.

(Photos of this to follow in my 'Cherry Blossom Restoration' Thread)

But I've also found an almost New 'Original Deep Dish White Fan' but at the moment it's on a Kit Car, that is going to be torn down.

And I've got my name on it, as it may be the last one on the Planet (or maybe not)

So not sure which way I'm jumping at the moment, as everyones closed for Easter and so with or without the Washers, I can't make anymore progress on that front.

Thanks Again for your very kind offer but I think I'll be OK.
