This has probably been asked somewhere before and I just noticed it. I am about to place an adhesive backed magnetic holder for an iPad mini over my radio/ac controls. While I was looking at mounting locations, I noticed a small sensor that was not there on my 2011 XF. Can anyone tell me what the hell it does? I scoured the manual and even though it shows up in the diagrams, there is no mention of it. This photo is not from my car, but has the sensor outlined in red.

I think all the controls in that area are also replicated through the touch screen, so i dont loose any functionality...just "convenience"

 

Can't say for sure but I'd guess at the cabin air temperature sensor as its in close proxmity to the HVAC controls (and that's where Audi used to put them)
