Dayton Wire Knock Off Wheels For XJ
Question: Is this a good deal for 450? Set includes knock off spinners. Wheelso are alleged to be true and spokes tight with nice chrome. I had a set years ago on my XJS C model. They really dress up the car. Your thoughts on this appreciated.
i have daytons tons on my MGB. The photo shows they are definitely Daytons, I recognize the stickers. They look pretty grotty though. Rusty rims=worthless. If the seller washes them and reshoots the photograph with good results, then the price is very fair (approx 1/4 original price). I wouldn't take a chance based on that photo, too much mysterious brownness.
They are likely too heavy for those wheels pictured above. I believe those are 60 spoke wheels, which had a high failure rate when installed on the XJ and XJS.
Dayton made a 72 spoke version specifically for the XJ and XJS which were far less problematic. The original dealer on my '90 convertible installed those, and there have been no issues yet, but it's only been 27 years so...
Definitely stay away from the 60 spoke version.
the 72 spoke version is quite acceptable for the XJS as long as you're not planning to race it. For regular driving and cruising they are fine. If it is just light surface rust that cleans up easily then $450 is very reasonable. FMTC they really make the car look much better than the original style wheels.
I have 60 spokes on my 91 for 21 yrs. Never had a problem with them. Since I put the 5sp and 3.54 I tore up the cage mounts and did in the rear end, but the wheels weren't effected as far as I know & that was 8 or 9 years ago.
they dont look like SPLINE drive hubs, just bolt ons!
pic of my 1975 XJC12 with real jaguar spline drive hubs and knock off spinners, had to use a wooden hammer to remove , also left was left hand threads.
