Default Yellowish substance, XJ8 wheel well

I posted something on this yesterday on the "What did you do to your Jag" topic, but wanted a broader audience. Does anyone know what the yellowish substance is on the wheel well where it meets the strut mount? It's a 2004 XJ8. A shop yesterday told me that it isn't a deteriorating strut bushing because, they say, the 2004 strut does not have an actual bushing at the top. "It's all one unit," they said. They think the yellow substance is evidence of rodent activity, but even if that's true, I still don't know what this stuff is. The photo is the starboard side, front wheel well with the hood popped open.

Many thanks for input!

There's definitely no strut bush that could deteriorate like that. I'm stumped.

Original strut? Original owner? Not that either answer helps me but it might help someone else figure it out. I'm stumped.

Is it present on both sides ? It looks like the stuff you can buy to fill big holes in walls. The stuff comes out of the can and expands into a foam. Could it be a previous owner detected a leak there and used this stuff ? If he did, it doesn't seem to have worked.

Look closely at the picture on the tin.

Wow, you may be onto something there! And as a matter of fact, I do detect the same yellowish substance on the left side, but it is not escaping the way it's doing on the right side. I wonder if there was some cheap body work done prior to me buying the car used three years ago. Once I get the car up again in a garage I'll have a look. (Am somewhat nervous as to what I'll find, but your hypothesis makes sense.)

I agree with Fraser. It looks like an attempt to slow a leak?

Nothing like that is being sourced from the inside of the air bellows.
