Default Can't bleed brakes ?

Hey guys been working on the brakes in my 1991 xj40 And i can't get any pressure through to my rear lines. When bleeding the front it works perfectly fine. but the rear is just a dribble of air and a brake peddle that I can't push to the floor. I've checked at the master cylinder end and at the join in the brake line where it splits to the rear brakes to see if I have fluid, both had a flow of brake fluid come out but nothing that seems pressurised.
I'm thinking the seals in the master cylinder have died, but what do you guys think ?

PURGE REAR WHEELS
For the AR, the maneuver is completely different.
Start with the ARD wheel, for LHD, ARG for RHD.
The procedure is as follows:
- Support on the brake pedal.
- Opening the bleed screw, the old liquid comes out, the pedal goes all the way to the stop.
- Keep the pedal pressed.
- Switch on the ignition without starting the engine.
At this moment the pump starts and again the old liquid comes out.
When it is clean and without bubble:
- Close the trap.
- Turn off the ignition.
- Let the pedal go slowly (3 seconds as usual)
- Fill the jar to the brim again

- Go on the other side, to do exactly the same maneuver.
To finish, make the exact level in the jar.
- Switch on the ignition without starting the engine.
- Wait for the assistance pump to stop and adjust the level.
Do not forget to put the small rubber protection caps on the bleed screws.
The old brake fluid, like the new one for that matter (but it's more expensive), is an excellent "degreaser-decambiator".
Spray or (and) brush with large brush, then rinse with water.

AR = (in French ARrière)=REAR in English

ARD=Right rear wheel
ARG=Left rear wheel

So are you suggesting I have a hydrolic failure ?
Hence why I can't get pressure through to the rear ?

I do not believe fairplaydriver is suggesting you have a hydraulic failure. Some ABS systems just don't allow full pressure to the rear brakes unless ignition is on, such as in the XJ40 (and modern Toyota SUVs, off the top of my head)
