The pics are from late July of this year. Oil level is fine. The sound just makes me really paranoid. Thoughts? 2002 XJ Sport.

Collapsed hydraulic lifter ? Rislone oil treatment

Noisy timing chain ? tensioner may expend better with the Rislone

Not to sound dumb. I didn't know DOHC had lifters? Oil change is coming soon. So should I up the oil weight? Not sure what weight is in it now.

True on the lifters ( not ) but the chain tensioner may be as I believe it is oil pressure expanding on the X300 engine so Rislon may help that and be good for the rest of the engine . If you have VVT there is a recommended weight for that as it shows viscosity related issues from what I have read from others .

Yup, it is a VVT car. Only the XJR's were non VVT. Cool, thanks a lot!

Mine makes a somewhat similar noise when it's fully warm, coming clearly from underneath the car, that I haven't pinned down yet. It's a bit hard to tell from those videos, and any video I take of it is even less clear. Once per engine revolution, almost sounds like something loose knocking sometimes.

The AJ V8's had shimmed buckets for the valve tappets, no hydraulic lifters on these engines.
