Great thread. Lots of good observations/suggestions.

Have you driven an XKR (150)? the R-S is definitely a $ premium over the XKR, so I'd be clear about what it is that you want to buy with the additional money, and what the R-S has for you that the XKR doesn't. (PS: whatever it is, I'm with you. Even if it's only looks and a certain cachet, if that works for you, go for it, and don't listen to anyone else.)

I've been lurking around R-S's a little myself. But I decided not to buy one unless I'd had a nice long test drive with it and I was ready to pull the trigger that day. I'd NEVER buy one without a solid drive first. Additionally, I'd really prefer to buy one from a Jag dealer, and CPO'd if possible.

I would miss the cooled seats for sure. I do keep coming back to that.

Also, though it isn't brought up much on the forum, assuming you go for good collision and comprehensive coverage, you'll pay a chunk more each month in insurance, and over four or five years that's gonna add up.

Sometimes I catch myself writing these things, about these cars, and think to myself: "Dude, it's your DAILY DRIVER. You are driving a 510-horsepower car to COSTCO. How much more do you need?" And that pretty much settles me down.

We bought a 2013 in July, I drive it hard and I'm pretty stoked about it. I admit that I haven't driven any other Jags more recent than an XJ-6, though.

503 HP, 510 PS. Anyway, who's counting? - way more torque than traction, no matter how you slice it.

Incorrect! That is known as being liberal with the double-speak or "false advertising". Similar to a 302 Ford engine claiming to be a 5.0L (when in fact it is only 4,949 cc, or less than 4.95, which would round down to a 4.9L moniker.)

Only the gullible and ill-informed are susceptible to this type of marketing ploy. 510 PS = 503 HP in every geographical location. The engines output remains the same. Salesmen and Marketers have their own ideas.

He might be - but he's right. There's only one standard XKR engine, and it puts out 510 PS, which is 503 HP in analogue money. But most people don't know what Pferdestärke are, so it gets stated as "510 HP".

Mine has 523.6 PS, dynoed out of the car on a newly calibrated engine dyno.
Guess I have 516.4 HP. By golly, I DON'T have 510!

Outrage! Anger! CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS!!!!

But no, seriously... they should change the name of this place to Pedantry Forums.

I've searched every, single, page... of the ENTIRE internet (even the **** sites) and I cannot find ANYTHING that doesn't say "510 HP" (except for Wikipedia, where someone made a gross typo). Guess I'm missing something. Even Jaguar says 510 HP, and they are the ones who provide the information that Wikipedia uses.

Pull off the foam sound deadening pad on your right valve cover and see what the sticker right on the engine says.

Well, huh.
518 PS = 510.914 HP.
So, just maybe, each engine is individually dynoed and that sticker is the result? If so, "Your Power may Vary".

OK, so what about the OP buying an XKR-S?

Now I 'sorta' wish I had bought an S, but realistically I don't like the catfish front bumper area and the extra 40 hp isn't really all that much. 8%? Can probably get that from an X-pipe, fresh spark plugs, clean air filter and some good petrol.
