...better rear suspension on the R-S, though, and they do look pretty flash.

I would have gone to an R-S because they are a little over the top which I like, but the prices here are outrageous (if you can find one to start with, you are looking at $150K plus) and I didnt think I would live with the infotainment.

If the OP wants the extra grunt and better handling, then the choices are the R-S or maybe an F Type R which has some space limitations against the XK.

The conversation has been great. Lots of great points by all, and I thank you for them. I really wish there was one near me that I could go and drive. For now, I think I will revisit my strategy towards the "S" and look a little further into an "R".
For what it's worth, after turning wrenches on cars for nearly 14yrs, I'm not afraid of having to buy a used vehicle. If it needs something, then it either gets replaced under warranty (if I buy one) or I repair it myself.

Back to taking notes.

J. Martinez

You do realise that has been photoshopped don't you?

All 5.0L engine numbers end in 508PS if they are supercharged or 508PN if the are naturally aspirated (5.0 litre, 8 cylinders, Petrol).

Cee-Jay does seem to have a unique car though. Apparently his is the only one with a 60mm diameter factory fitted exhaust and the only one whose adaptive cruise brings the car to a halt so he may well have a 5.1 litre car

Heh - even that can be contentious. Jaguar says my car does 174, but I've driven it at 186 (GPS verified).

Read my build / rebuild thread. Good times and will show that deep down the early X150's aren't too different from what you have now as far as repairs go. Still a user friendly chassis.

What??!!?? Wasn't I supposed to do that? But you bring a point.... evidently that "508" doesn't mean a danged thing about power in ANY measurement. So once again, where is it stated that HP is only 503? (other than wiki)
HOWEVER..... my exhaust definitely IS 60mm (at least the portion I measured, I'd assume it was all identical), and my car DOES stop using Adaptive Cruise. THOSE two things are set in stone. Once it warms up enough I can get an impartial witness (Mandrake? Anyone else??) and video the stopping. Since I don't have a lift handy, measuring the pipes on video may take awhile.

Buying a car is often an emotional thing. Go with what you like, don't decide based on the numbers. It's not a track car anyway. I got XKR-S because I liked the aggressive styling and the interior. Performance was important but secondary, there are faster cars out there.

Yeah man, I'll testify. I'd like to see it myself as well because mine disengages at 13 or 17 mph or something like that.

Default prefer white over black

I'd prefer the white one, it's much cleaner IMO.

I appreciate your thoughts and insight.

The black hides the lines, contours and jagged edges of the RS; white, pops and stands out. Why buy this car and blend in?

IRR would be my pick. I've seen one in black and thought it looked pretty mean, saw one in red and it looked awesome. White isnt my preferred colour for any of the jag sports cars - like black it doesnt accentuate the waist and hips which to me is the best part.

Ugh, the huge bumpus on the bumper below the headlamp detracts from it too much.
