2.0d rattle

Hi, i’ve just changed my crank pulley, tensioner and belt and my rattle hasn’t been solved, and goes louder when i put the aircon on. Do you think the tensioner i bought could be faulty?

If you bought a new tensioner I would consider it most unlikely. You say you changed it yourself? Perhaps time to let a professional look at it. Might save you money in the long run.

Have you checked the air con compressor? if the pulley on the compressor is faulty it makes a similar noise to the crank but when engaged the air con should technically make it sound less

have a look down at the belt when the car is at idle and if the belt is jumping then maybe the new tensioner is bad, did you tighten everything properly too? look at the crank too when its moving,
if everything is okay then turn on the aircon and look at that pully and see if its not running smoothly

Thanks for your help, turned out it was a faulty crank pully, put another one on (heavy duty) and that’s cured it!

Ahh brilliant!
I did a bit of research on them before in case I ever had to replace one , heavy is definitely better, I think the old light ones all ran into problems.
I read somewhere else that people put in the couple style pulley from the transit vans and that worked great , you might need to get a new housing for around the wheel arch tho

Do you have the pulley reference number or make of it so I know what to get when mine goes
Thanks

Thanks! Hopefully it will stay good for a couple of years at least if not longer.

If it ever breaks or has problems do let us know back on this thread :icon_cool:
