I have a 2002 X-Type with 3.0 Sport and automatic. The service department said the smoke was from the old black PCV value which I replaced last month and it solved 90% of the problem.

However, it still produces a huge cloud of smoke occasionally, the car can almost be hidden there is so much smoke. It never happens if the car is turned off overnight or at least 8 hours or so or if the car is turned off just a few minutes like getting gas. It happens when the car has stopped for about 1 hour like shopping. I get the feeling that if the car stops for a few minutes whatever is leaking oil doesn't have enough time. If I stop for 8 or more hours the oil has had time to get back where it belongs. It only smokes for about 30 seconds.

Could have have installed a bad PCV value? They tell me it is fine as I can not ever get it to smoke when I take it to service.

Also, about 5 times after starting at a light when it turns green the car stalls and goes into limp mode, engine light on, yellow light on below speedometer, message that says the speed control has turned off. After 5 seconds or 10 seconds of limping it catches again and runs fine but the service guy can not find any codes turned on.

Any suggestions? I like the car but am beginning to not trust it. I purchased it new, it has 58,000 miles now.
