2004 Parking Brake Diagram/FSM

Hey all, new to the forum here...

I have searched but to no avail although I am getting used to the site still.

I was wondering if anyone had a diagram of the parking brake system. My e brake doesnt work and I assume its the cable but am unsure. I would love a picture of the system if possible. Also would anyone know how to find a FSM. I used to be able to find them no problem for my Nissans......

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums. You have come to the right place. A lot of friendly and helpful people here. Pretty much anything that can happen to an X has been discussed here.

As for your issue with the emergency brake that is a fairly common problem as the car ages. Could be as simple as an adjustment. Do an advanced search and I'm sure you'll find a number of helpful posts. There is a member here named Thermo that knows the rear brakes better than probably anyone. He seems to have had a number of issues with his calipers and replaced and rebuilt them more than once I believe. You might want to check out some of his posts. He's not around here as much as he used to as he recently bought an XJS and is spending a lot of time over there,

By "FSM" I am guessing you mean a service manual. At the top of this form look in the sticky on how to download the JTIS. That is probably what you are looking for.

Welcome and good luck!

Hi, I don't believe there's an X Type with an electronic parking brake.

Here is Thermo's write-up on repairing the rear calipers, tons of great info

Nice! I knew Thermo had written something up about this.

I must apologise, I guess you guys are talking about the emergency brake, back here in the old world it's known as the parking brake, or handbrake. Sorry again. That article by Thermo is brilliant !

Thank you all for your replies. I was able to successfully install the JTIS software, thankfully lol. That was the FSM I was looking for, awesome. I finally got under the car. The splitter up by the e brake lever underneath the car, the two cables going back to each rear caliper have come out of the splitter. So pulling the e brake was so easy since it was connected to nothing of course. I wasnt able to pull the rear brake cables into the splitter as I did not have enough slack. It looks like i can loosen the splitter assembly but wasnt able too. Has anyone seen this before or any idea why the cables would have come out in the first place. (my question mark key just stopped working as for the lack of them) Any idea how to get them back in. Thanks in advance.
