On Wednesday the 28th at about 9pm I set off on a road trip in my 04 X Type with a buddy of mine and my dog to Colorado and then new Mexico from Florida. Trunk packed, backseat floor loaded and dog (a 70lbs year and a half old pit bull) ridding in the backseat, on a pet protector thing that was so worth the 30 bucks. When the trip started my car had about 184,600 miles on it and when I got to my final destination in NM it was just over 187k miles. The only real problem I had with the car was the battery gave up on me about 10 hours into the trip, but the battery was as old as the car and I told myself to get a new one before I left, but, didn't. Other than that, no problems. Before I left I did change out the O rings in the intake manifold and changed the spark plugs and oil and filter. What a great trip, and I'm so glad I did it in my Jag. My friend and I split the cost of gas, and to save money, and because its enjoyable for us, we camped at state/national parks along the way. The car averaged about 25mpg, traveling about 70 to 80mph most of the time, not bad, but I expected a little better. The worst thing that happened was a truck tire at like 2am. I was behind someone, when they swerved at the last minute to avoid said tire, I also swerved, hard, but clipped it, taking a chunk out of my front bumper and ripping out a fog light. Could have been worse. I took some pics with the car in them to share.

Thanks for sharing! Too often we see horror stories on car forums (hey, we turn to them to seek help/advice when something goes wrong), but we rarely see the positive posts like this.
I'm glad you and your X-Type enjoyed the trip! It's nice to see a high mileage example still running strong.
It looks like your pup enjoys eying the car as much as you do.

Thats why I decied to post this, so many posts are about problems and so few about enjoying these cars. Dont get me wrong, helping people keep these cars on the road is important but sharing our enjoyment and triumphs is too. And yes, my dog also loves my car too haha.
In all honesty I've only had the car about a year and a half and I beat on it often. It hasn't need any big repairs, just little maintenance items here and there. Most of the money I've put into it has been upgrades. I take care of it but, I also drive it, beat it and race it once and a while. I love this car.
Glad you are getting some true enjoyment from your X-Type. Sorry that retread had to take a bite out of it, though.

Nice post. Love to see the Florida X's. The furthest I've taken mine is down to Miami from Orlando. Not sure if I'd take it out west. But mine is in great shape also and I love driving it.
Excellent adventure!
