I'm looking to upgrade the rotors and calipers on my car. I came across these Arden brakes, though for some reason the site doesn't have them in the store section.
I'd be interested in other rotors/calipers, etc...I don't really have anything in mind. I would like some decent brakes, though...I'm a fan of brakes. Any ideas? Here's the Arden link:

Hey busjag,
try EBC for rotors n pads. They are awesome.
Look for slotted / grooved galvanised rotors married up with RED stuff pads for serious stopping power. The redstuff pads also help to c/w the rotors above also help to minimise brake dust. Jag now supply EBC green stuff pads as OEM..........Redstuff easily outperform these pads. Check them out............if you're interested type in scooby58 at the checkout for 15% discount

Hey Busjag,
If u really want to spend 2-3 grand upwards on a break kit, go with the arden, otherwise u mite want to look for some other cheaper brakes and rotors, and i dont think there are any big brake upgrade kits other than arden

Oh man, I didn't realize the Arden ones were going to be that expensive. I'm looking at the EBC rotors now, they don't seem all that expensive at all. I just had the 30,000 miles service done, I wonder if they replaced the brake pads.
I think I'll keep looking, but these EBC rotors seem like the frontrunners.

At the 30k service they dont change the pads unless they are worn, and then they ask you if u want to pay to have them changed. If u need to change them, you should do it yourself as its an easy job. only take about 2 hours for the average person. not to sure the difficulty of the rotors, but im sure theres a lot of people on the forum that do and will help you out.

The look of the brakes in my opinion is worth it in a way and the performance isobviously incredible, but upwards of 3K for brakes? They can't really be that expensive can they?

Heck yeah! Look at how much they want for those arden taillights!~ I like the taillights that arden has but I like mine more considering I don't think they'd cost that much for a new one straight from jag! Guarantee those brakes are near that! Screw that though I'll just strip and paint the caliper again and slap a arden sticker i'll make off my computer and seal it in for around $15!!!
And take the other $2500 and buy rims and a double din navigation unit or the exhaust!!!
Lets see
rims and tires 19" -$1400
Exhaust-----------$600 with labor
Double-Din radio-$500-1000
plus some nice looking brakes! Screw Arden!

Haha, i think if they wanted to make it that fast, they would have got a different car lol. I checket to see how much it wud cost for a supercharger, and the price was $13000 for a gain of 85 hp. For a custom twin turbo installed i found someone willing to do it for about $9000 for an estimated horse power to the wheels of 350, so about close to 400hp. I dont think it wud be wise to have 400hp on a daily driver. Oh and i didnt want to spend that much too, not yet neways.

Someone needing those brakes wouldn't buy an awd x-type! I could see on your s-type with the supercharger but until that car is going to go fast enough to need them I couldn't imagine paying for them. You could also say that well what if you had all the money in the world? I wouldn't buy a x-type if I had all of the money in the world. I'd hunt down the bonspeed and buy that one or get a xkr!

Yeah, I think that's a good point. From what people are saying here (I'm new), there seem to be a number of decent braking system options that won't cost 1/3 the value of the car.

The value of the brakes is not a problem, the problem would be buying them and never really needing their performance. The brakes on my buddies 240sx cost $1500 for the front and about $400 for the rear, and he spent about 2 grand on suspension. The car, bone stock costs about 3 grand. The problem isn't that the brakes and suspension cost more than the car, the deal is that he needs the suspension to keep the car stable while drifting or going 160mph, and he needs the brakes to stop his 800 hp engine! The most an X-type makes is 2 hundred and something HP, so it doesn't NEED the big brake upgrade, despite how beautiful I insist the are!

Yeah, so you see what were saying! He needs those brakes for that kind of crap but the only drifting I do with my jag is in the snow when I decide to have a little fun!!!
So much fun to watch those guys drift! Ever watch the forza motorsport show on speed? I love that they put the cars through everything! Ever watch the hogan knows best show? His son drifts, he drifted in one episode with the mopar viper~talk about a suckky car!!!LOVE THE VIPER 94 with black drop top and yellow rims is my fettish baby yeah!

By getting higher performance brakes, do you sacrifice lower-speed braking performance?
For example, would OEM brakes be better than drilled/slotted EBC brakes while braking sharply at city speeds? Or would the slotted brakes always perform better than the stock brakes?

Always better at everything. The biggest for high performance brakes is that once you brake more and get em hotter they brake better! The problem with stock brakes is that the stopping power or efficiency drastically drops once they get hotter! Plus more expensive of brakes the less you will get brake dust and what not! Although too expensive of pads and they wear faster than others!

Keep in mind though the faster you go the longer it takes to stop so you have to have better brakes to stop all of that power, like a vette, viper, ferrari and what not. Good brakes drastically drop the amount of distance needed to stop and gets better the more you stop. Motorweek is a good show to watch, occasionally they go over stuff like this and test every car for all aspects whether it be accident avoidance, skid test, 1/4 mile, stopping and efficiency!

Speaking of Hogan, I just saw his son drifting his Viper at the NOPI event here in Miami. I went but didn't participate as my 240 was out of commish that weekend, but the Viper is sexy as heck and the Hogan kid is a really good driver.

Yeah I know, that must have been after he was trying to get his drift license, eh? The episode I saw he was driving the actual mopar viper to get his license (once a year opportunity) for drifting and he smashed that sweet machine into the wall a bunch of times! Did they have the mustang alongside the viper? He is a pretty good driver though, I thought!

Fantastic...then the next thing I do for the car is going to be upgrading the rotors and pads. Whenever I get some money, that is... I'm hoping to do it myself, which will be a really interesting process since the most technical thing I've ever done on a car was replace the flood lights.
