$610 sounds about right. I paid around $650. Definitely have it done at the dealership, buys you peace of mind and labor guarantee.

A decent independent shop on the other hand, gave me a quote of $750 in labor + an additional charge for the alignment.

What tire pressure and what tire size do you have? I'm toying with the pressure to find the best ride.

As I mentioned before - I did everything myself. Wanted to try. Would not do it again though, but it was an interesting experience. Also replaced the mounts and bearings just as a precaution (the old ones were ok). And two rear lower control arms. + The brake booster and flushed the brake system.

Just put a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport's (225/40/18). The combination of Bilstein B6 and PSS - is unbelievably good. Just endless grip in corners...
Strongly recommend

If I replace my struts and shocks with the Bilstein HD's, will I also need to change my springs. From one of the posts above, it sounds like the HD's will work with either comfort or sport springs. My 2008 is used and I have no paperwork for it so I'm not sure of which springs are on the car. Thanks.

I have a 2002 S type Sport. how can I check which springs I have. the front struts were replaced before I got it. (it used to have CATS on all four. now only in the rear) im struggling with either picking up 2 used front CATS and sending them to blistein and having them rebuilt or get a sport strut for the front. I have disconnected the CATS system and I believe when I do that the remaining CATS (rear) default to sport mode.
What to do.....what to do??????

Default Bilstein B8s for the X-Type

They do make them for our car but you'll have to buy them from someone across the pond.

Fast forward a year and a half...

Based on this thread, I decided to purchase a set of B6 HD struts. In the USA, they are not readily available (4 week lead time from factory) from sellers in the $180 to $200 each for the front struts. If I want to pay $250+ each, there are a few sellers with them in stock. I just can't see paying that much for them.

Anyone know if someone has them in stock for under $200 each?

Thanks.

Bilstein B6 availability Update:

I became tired of Summit Racing pushing out this shocks availability every week. I wrote Bilstein, this was their response.

Hello,
Sorry at this time we do not have a true landed date on these items, only ETA’s. the latest being given is October-November and this may be pushed as well. However our inventory and ETA’s does not reflect the inventory or ETA’s of our stocking dealers. Please continue to communicates with your dealers regarding their ETA on these items.

Kind Regards,

I guess I have to pay a premium for these shocks, install B4s, or wait....

Any link to the page and I’m assuming it was the B6

Hi Daniel,

I don't have the site off the cuff but I'll look. I purchased the B12 pro kit which is the B6 but with a shortened stroke. I assume you're in the US and have looked overseas? I'll look for the receipt and reply back.

Chris

I was thinking about buying Town Car, it is bigger and more comfortable car with less fuel cost than X. (I have back problem and sometimes drive 700 miles to visit parents in MD.)
