Cant get rid of code

Well, have a code P0102, yes MAF sensor voltage, replaced it, hard reset, nothing worked, went and put Bosch OBD on it and cleared codes, came right back, put new plugs, new O2 sensors, yes both, new intake gaskets and checked for air leaks, nothing. No broken wires anywhere. Can't find anything else wrong with it. Went through all the processes and am getting pissed, wifes car and she is getting scared to drive it. Don't know what else to do. A dealership would charge thousands. I am a very good mechanic and used to build race cars and race engines so I am not an idiot. This really makes me hate jaguar.

Here is the relevant extract from the Jaguar DTC table for P0102:

Provided the code reader you are using is compatible with Jaguar (and several do give false codes), from 'Possible Causes', if you've already replaced the MAF and the filter has no blockage or leaks, then it has to be short to ground on the sensing or supply circuits.

daddio, from the sounds of things, this is where connecting a multimeter to the MAF plug is going to be your next step. First see if you are getting voltage in and out of the plug (measuring to ground). That will tell you if you have a bad wire. You can also do a continuity check by measuring from the MAF to the plug at the ECU (should be under 3 ohms). If all that checks out good, then you may have a bad ECU.

If you need a diagram for the wiring, let me know. The one tidbit that might help others is whether you have the early design or later design X-Type. In early 2004, jaguar redid the wiring harness of the X-Type and there are little differences between the two. If you look in the driver's door jam, it will state the month/year that the car was made. March 2004 or earlier, you have the early wiring harness. If you have April 2004 or later, then you have the newer harness setup.

Manufacture date is 11/03. Have a voltmeter but not here, at work, will have to bring home.

Still cant get fixed

Well, the car is still doing code P0102 and P1000, did the hard reset, attempted to clear codes with Bosch diagnostic unit, nothing works. Replaced sparkplugs, intake gaskets, both O2 sensors, MAF sensor and checked for leaks with carb cleaner, Nothing!!! Still can't figure it out and multi meter is at work locked up in toolbox, forget to bring it home. ANYTHING else it could be, Transmission? I hate to think it is the ECU.

An outside chance, but you haven't mentioned the air filter that Jaguar put at the top of the list that Graham provided. It's not blocked, is it?

Then, as Thermo has said, you do need to use a meter to check out what's happening at the MAF connector. Should be 12 v on the Green/Blue wire, between 0 and 5 v on Green/White, depending on engine conditions, 0 and 5 v on the Orange, depending on temperature and, finally, a good ground connection on the Black/Green and the Black/White wires.

After that, a higher grade scanner would allow the MAF performance to be checked while the car is driven.

Checked with volt meter

Okay, checked the plug with volt meter, every wire was checking perfect except the Green with blue tracer, nothing there. Nothing. Grounds checked all good. So what does the Green wire w/Blue tracer go to? And if it is supposed to be 12v then what would happen if I wire the acc. to it so it becomes live when key is on? How to fix, wife is hating car as it has been like this for months and she has a difficult time accelerating to get on freeway. Anyone want to buy a used Jag?

daddio 11-01-2015 11:26 AM

Okay, just checked the MAP sensors on the passenger side of the manifold and both have 12v at the Green wire w/Blue tracer. Having been a tech before on the original C3 GM system, I can only assume that this Green wire w/Blue tracer powers all the intake sensors, why does the MAF sensor not get 12v? I looked at the connectors on the ECU and don't see multiple Green wires w/Blue tracer. ? This is really baffling.

daddio: The voltage of the green / black wires should be the same for MAP & MAF sensors, and also the green / black wires to the Engine Coolant and Engine Oil Temperature sensors and the Throttle Body Position sensor. If the MAF sensor is not getting the same voltage, trace the MAF's green / black wire until you find the fault. All these green / black wires join and go back via a green / black wire to pin 19 of the ECU.

For your 2004 X-Type manufactured in Nov 2003, download the 2002-2003 electrical wiring pdf in this post. The engine sensors are in Figure 03.1 on page 97, top right: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...4-25-a-152076/

I would like to thank all of you for the help. I feel like a dumbass!! Found the broken wire. It is weird though as we got the car from her father and never did anything under the hood, then one day it just started acting up, I replaced the O2 sensors, manifold gaskets, spark plugs, MAF sensor and air cleaner, tried hard reset and everything. And here the broken wire was right in front of me.

this was a cool thread , trouble shot right to the solution.:icon_clapclap:

at least now you have a bunch of items which are not going to need to be replaced since you just did them all
