Default Courtesy Lamps at Bottom of Front Doors?

There are red courtesy lamps (?) at the interior bottom edge of both front doors. I just noticed that they don't light up any more, but I think that they used to?

Can someone advise in what modes they should be illuminating?

Or, maybe they're just reflectors??

Thanks!!

Off hand, I cant say I know what year the X Type ceased to power those lamps, but my 2006 has no operable lamps and no provision in the wiring harness that's in the door, although I am sure the earlier models had them.

Yes, earlier models did but, unfortunately, Ford decided to cut costs and that was one of the items that went. It really annoys me too!

Well, OK then... I think that explains it. My car is a 2006 Sport.
I've only had the car for 12 years, so clearly I am a bit delusional... :O

Thanks for the reality check!

You can retro fit illuminated ones if you really want to. I took a different route and installed magnetically (on/off) controlled with an alternative push button (if door is going to be open for an extended time), battery operated Jaguar Logo "puddle lights"
