Don't know if I have HID or Halogen headlights
Hello, I bought a 2004 x-type and I am not certain if it has hid or halogen lights. It has the projector lenses but I'm not sure if it's HID or halogen. How would I know if I had HID or halogen? Thank you.
If you can see where you are going then you have HID's!
Seriously though, if you have automatic headlight leveling then you have HID's. If you have to turn the button manually then you most likely have halogen.

On a US spec left hand side drive car if you have HID lights there will be a sticker saying you have them in the front of the driver's side door jamb near the bottom. That is if they came stock fro the factory. Now if the previous owner had put them in himself that would not be there.
Zach, here are a few checks that you can do to see if you have halogens or HIDs:
-look in the driver's door jam between the hinges, if you have HIDs, there will be a silver sticker there that says the car is equipped with HID bulbs
-when turning on the headlights, do the headlights come on solid (halogens) or do they flicker bright, dim, then over about 2 seconds come up in brightness (HIDs)
-if you remove the cover off of the back of the headlight assembly (outer portion), if you look at the back of the bulb, if you can see 2 small posts with wires attached to them, you have halogen bulbs, if you see a big black box in the way, then you have HIDs.
If someone installed aftermarket HIDs (which is possible), then what you will see is a bulb with a black and red wire coming off of the back running to a small box that is mounted most likely outside of the headlight assembly.
Any more questions, let me know.
