Key broke out of Key FOB

I looked through previous threads and have not found a solution to my problem. Here's a couple pics.

I'd like to repair this without buying a blank key and hiring a keysmith. I've thought about buying this ( ) but i don't know if i could take the uncut key out of the head and put my key in it.

Take your fob apart and take out the key itself. You'll probably see it isn't worth trying to repair, although it could possibly be brazed for a short term fix:icon_emm: Complete fobs are cheap on eBay and even have a battery with them. You'll need the new blank to be cut (not that expensive) and the key can be programmed to your car quite easily by yourself, without the need of a specialist. The process is available on Youtube.

The transponder can be switched over so no need for programing.

I don't know about the one on Amazon, but a genuine Jaguar fob off e-bay should be be able to accept your key.

After looking closer it looks like the key might be good, so the amazon one would work with the key and transponder switched over, assuming the existing fob buttons work.
Of course you do have a spare key?

Looks like I'll eventually have to get a new key. I'm not super proud of this but I super glued the key into the fob. I will eventually get back to making a new key but at the moment I'm making a list of other repairs my jag requires. I just bought it used, 2002 X-type 3.0 with 112k miles and a mile long list of faulty codes.

Unfortunately no spare key.

Then make plans for two keys, losing your only key is a disaster.
IIRC X Type fobs are easily programed.

I bought two blank keys with remotes on ebay for only $40 :icon_goofygrin: That way my wife has an extra key also. I was quoted $250 for a locksmith to cut and program both keys. I'm going to wait until tomorrow and call the local jaguar dealership along with other locksmiths that weren't open today.

Sounds like a plan, you really need a second key.

Too expensive (at least here, in Australia). I bought a complete fob and blank key from an Asian supplier on eBay, changed my old key to the new fob (although I realise that you can''t do that, so would have to have new blank cut), and programmed it myself in not more than 20 seconds. Too easy! To answer a previous question, if your buttons are not working on the old fob, either the battery is stuffed, or either the rubber 'tits' on the back of the buttons are worn, or the micro switches under the buttons are buggered. Get a new fob.

I've changed the fob itself a few times - moving the metal key itself from the old fob to the new one. That works just fine....
BUT - in your case it looks like your metal key itself broke off of the circular metal thingie that allows it to swivel open when you press the button.
If that metal bit is broken, maybe it can be welded back together.

If not, that means a trip to the dealer to cut a new key.

A couple months ago my son lost his keys. He had to take it to the dealer for a new key and they charged him about $1,000 for two new keys (one new key was not an option.)
