Maf sensor wiring

Hi Folks - new to the forum as just purchased my used X type 2.0d 2004. Lovely ride but engine management light with P1000 code down to maf sensor. The 4 wires that are going into it were a bit frayed so after putting new connectors on it and replacing the sensor still got the problem. My question is are the wires in the right order and if they are not would engine still run? going from nearest to front of car there are 4 wires : red, brown & purple, white & purple and brown and purple. Wires might be faded but this was the order they came with. Previous owner was convinced it was the Maf sensor but having replaced and looked at it don't think this was the issue. Help!

Wait! P1000 is not about any one sensor. It is a non-serious status (not error) code meaning at least one OBD monitor has not run OK (aka "set").

More info on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource but leave that MAF alone (for now, unless it is actually bad).

Thanks. So it's not a big worry then? It is running a bit lumpy and sometimes surging. OBD does mention "Maf sensor connect" hence thinking this is the only issue? Air filter needs replacing but don't think main issue. Should I looking elsewhere?

Dirty egr valve is a prime contender !

Yes thought about EGR valve but been assured it's been replaced and shouldn't be a problem but will clean anyway. But still need Wiring order just in case.

Of course it's a worry. But worry about the actual problem not the wrong one!

MAF/IAT Sensor - Wiring

SMIFFY69 05-24-2018 11:45 PM

Thanks Dell Gailey- But where is the red one? Lol. But by the look of the photo I might have a wire out of order. Back to my original question will sensor run if wires not in right order? Will clean egr over the weekend to rule that out and getting garage to do electrical test on wires today along with a tracking issue so just ruling out things as we go along.

Every post I've been able to find on diesel NAF wiring shows and describes the colors shown in the pic above. Here's a sample =

Think your brown/purple is faded blue/brown

Thanks Dell. Will have a look over the weekend. Cheers.

An update guys. I need new glasses! It wasn't P1000 but P0100 code. I've since tried to clean EGR valve and still no success. Engine light came on straigh away. After googling every possibility I'm thinking it is probably the wiring loom or the connections and at worse fuel filter? It's running rough and fuel mpg is on a par with petrol at the moment. Any further thoughts? Thanks in advance. Be nice - I'm an amateur!

Maf sensor wiring loom

Thanks Dell. Helpful. If my connectors are ok though where does the wiring loom go back to. It goes from right to left of rocker cover them is joined by something else the disappears downwards. Where is the end? Please talk in simple terms. Thanks.

You can download the wiring diagram from the main page "stickies" to trace the entire route.
