Oil level dipstick query
Hate to ask this question as I am a mechanic
First jaguar , 2.1 litre, petrol, manual gearbox 2002 x type. Completely drained engine oil and removed oil filter , fitted new filter and sump plug, using correct specified oil , added 6 litres which i read in the manual to be correct, is only showing minimum on dipstick after leaving overnight. Is it possible it has the wrong dipstick in it ? Is there anyway of identifying wether it's the correct dipstick or not ? |
As you are a "mechanic", the 6 litres is the full capacity of the oil pan, etc. NOT including the amount used/held in a NEW oil filter. Could be low because of that singular reason. When I drained and replaced mine (2006, 3.0) I used the normal requirements as a baseline, still ended up using more after it "settled in". Never used a drop more since.

Well the manuals say 6 litres for a oil and filter change , that says to me when completely empty of oil and completely refreshing

Here is NZ I was putting around 6.3L on services. Puts it around middle to upper side of dipstick.

The Jaguar shop manual states 6.5 liters for capacity or about 6.7 quarts. So you should be reading low right now.

Ok can't understand why literature I've read through all say 6 litres for an oil and filter change , I will recheck tomorrow in case I'm reading it wrong
|
My manual says 6.1 quarts, yet the Jaguar shop manual says 6.5 so there you are.
