Penta-head socket
I am giving it a go at rebuilding the caliper on my X-Type. I have a new seal kit for the rear caliper. I have the caliper about half way apart but I have run into an interesting fastener. It is called a pentahead bolt (yes, a 5 sided bolt). It appears to be holding the internals of the caliper in place. So, from what I can tell, I need to get this bolt out. Problem is that I don't have a socket that will remove that bolt (6 or 12 point sockets do not work). Anyone got a lead on where I could get a socket for this application? I have found some penta sockets, but they all seem to be in the 51/64" size (way to big for this application) and are meant for accessing high voltage cabinets.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am attempting to see why my vehicle goes through a rear caliper a year due to the e-brake arm sticking. Even greasing the area under the arm does not help my situation. It appears to be binding inside the caliper. Trying to see if there is something I can do to make this not happen or atleast make it go longer between having to buy new calipers. |
Found similar threads about the net. Best answer I saw was to check amazon.com and search for "five sided socket"
Saw somewhere else that snap-on sells them too but hit a dead end. So far I see 12.5mm, 14mm and 19mm Fleabay has a few as well More Best of luck Vince http://www.audizine.com/forum/images...s/wrenchin.gif

Clever, thanks, I guess I wasn't using the correct words earlier on fleabay. Granted, looking like I am going to have to have the socket brought in from England to the US. Not seeing any US companies selling them. I guess this shouldn't surprise me.

Sears has a socket that might work. I'm not sure what they call it but it has many spring loaded pins inside that either get pushed up out of the way or wedge themselves around a mis-shaped bolt head. I've never used one but they seem like a good alternative.

JagLvr, unfortunately, the tool that Sears has will not work in my case as the bolt is recessed and the pins would flex and destroy themselves trying to get the bolt out.
