I looked through the X-Type post's and didn't see any thing about this, but I have been wanting to change the stock radio for an aftermarket DVD player since I got my Jag. The only thing is every where I go no one has an adapter kit for the X-Type. Does any one know a web sight or any body that makes one?

RE: Radio

Your best bet is to do an amp bypass. This requires a rewire of the car, or a good technician that can jump the factory wires at the amp....... depends on your tech. Most are not capable of doing it. I owned car audio stores years back, MECP Certified Masters installer, and have a degree in Electronics Engineering....... I can do it blindfolded.

If you have a schematic of the wiring in the car, you can add the factory radio and use the factory amp by taking a set of raw RCA cords and fitting them to the wires behind the radio that go to the inputs of the factory amp. Then plug the new fittings into the RCA outputs of the radio. The RCA's drive low voltage out, which is made to go into the inputs of the amp. This will eliminate the need to spend $100 on the voltage reducer that they always try to sell you.

As far as a fit kit goes, I have not looked on the web for one.

RE: Radio

Yeah, I thought of doing that and it would me easy but I don't wan't to cut up the wire's. That way if for some reason I decide to go back to the stock unit no one would ever know that it was taken out or tamperd with.

RE: Radio

You don't cut the wires, you T-tap them.

16 yr old's in '77 Ford LTD's with 6 color paint jobs cut factory wires...... Jag owners use T-Taps ;)

Hey wangan don't worry about it...are you familiar with mdf at all? There have been many that have made a dash kit. The hardest part is matching up the color of the climate control plastic to the face of the dash kit. Here's a link to a a how to a guy did. To get a wiring harness for the radio bigdreams used a ford harness on his s-type and I'd find it hard to imagine that they'd use a different one on the x-type. You'd be looking at $20 bucks worth of materials and another 7 bucks for the harness from your local walmart!

I can confirm that all my wiring harnesses on my 03 XK8 are Ford also. Stampted right on it. Pretty sure yours will be too.

I've been staring at that picture for a day now wondering why it looks so weird..... finally I got it...... I've never seen manual climate controls.

Yeah one I was looking at that too but I noticed right away how weird it looks w/out digital climate controls.k I kind of like the look but I think I prefer our digital ones...

This is certainly a good opportunity to add a badly needed extra pocket.I like the look of the second one better than the radio all alone in a sea of grey.
