I tried this and no luck with a new battery in it. Didn't mess up working remote either. Does that mean its non working all together?

I'd say that's probably right. Your remote may have failed.

do i need two remotes for this? because it's not working for me either and it is really frustrating not being able to use a remote on a jag.

Remote programing

You are lucky
I reprogrammed my fob and all worked except the engine would not turn over. The dashboard lights were all on but starter would not engauge.
