Replace front lower control arm

Hello forum,

My mechanic tells me he will have to lower the front chassis to replace the lower arm. I don't see that as a requirement when I am looking at the workshop manual but what do I know.

I know lowering the chassis takes time but is it really necessary to replace the lower control arm?

Unfortunately yes, to remove the rear bolts the subframe has to be lowered to give clearance to get them out.

If you don't lower the subframe you risk breaking open the large oil-filled bushing on the control arm. I have the t-shirt.

When reassembling, you can do what VW did to the same control arm setup with New Beetles and Jettas, INSTALL THE BOLT POINTING UP, with nut on top.

Next time someone will thank you.
