wheel nuts after market
just got some 17 inch wheels for the car and now need new smaller wheel bolts as the original ones are to big to fit the new wheels do i need tapered or tuner bolts any ideas cheers from andrew
What do you mean by TOO big?? Do you mean the bolts wont fit in the hole or that they wont tighten? the jaguar bolts are not taper fit like most others but toyota solid bolts fit although you will need a bigger socket to fit (21mm instead of 19mm)

Regardless; you need bolts for that particular set of wheels. Most wheels made today, unless they are Dayton wire wheels, or wheels from the 60s 70s 80s, or 90s use a tapered nut, to fit the cone shaped holes in the wheel. The older wheels used a straight drilled hole. If straight drilled holes are used in your new wheels, you need wheel nuts that are made for that type of wheel. If they are too long, the wheel will not be tight enough, and will brake the wheel studs eventually. If the wheel nuts are too short, the same thing will happen. In both instances, the end result could be fatal. Go to a wheel expert, or the place where you bought the wheels, and get the right kind of nut. We would just be guessing on here, and that is not a good thing, when it comes to your life.....Mike
Just to chime, I bought some of the $30 Toyota lug nuts off eBay, as many others have done and suggested. They were fine (although they stick out a bit).
BUT after about a year, they are rusting on the outside. Going to look for a new solution.
