I just wanted to see if any one could help me identify this part and where it supposed to go. Part number on it is 97BE19E663AD some sites say ambient light sensor and some things are saying alarm receiver. It is located just behind the drivers side air vent. I will upload more photo's tonight. I just don't see any spot that it may go into. I searched all over the bottom of the dash before I reinstalled it. There is no unaccounted holes on the dash for this to go into. The car in question is a 02 x-type 3.0 with automatic headlights and wipers.
its the ambient light sensor for the air con, detects bright sunlight and starts the air con cooling as it expects the internal temp to rise without waiting for the cabin temp to rise.
it fits to the round plastic rivet that holds the air vent in place. right pig of a job getting it back.
It seems that this sensor was only fitted to earlier model X-types and is not really necessary (according to the workshop manual), and can just be taped or attached via a cable tie, to a pipe under the dash. The manual says the A/C will operate quite normally without it. If I can find the page again, I'll post it.
Bugger! I can't find it, but am sure I read this. The component was a Ford thing and was installed in X300 models too.
