Exclamation After Market Front Parking Sensors for MY2012 XF

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2012 Jaguar XF 3.0 (Premium Luxury) and was quite upset after sitting in my friends 2009 XF 3.0. He has an older car with the option of front parking sensors (Like most of you other members).

I have no idea why my front sensors were never installed (Must've been a Jag option which i missed, Doh!), but this is now bothering me AND the wife is going to start driving this car. She can only park with both front and rear sensors .

My car has a reverse camera, distance monitor and audible alerts, but only for the rear - when the reverse gear is engaged. Note that this car does not even have the parking sensor button in the roof, near the map lights; Just a big button for the rear folding sunshade.

I was looking to get a simple audible solution for the front of the vehicle. I do not want any cheap-looking solutions, with a big fugly LCD or distance meter. I am happy with just the beeping really. There seem to be plenty on the market, BUT - I am looking for one which any of you may have installed / recommend.

I am curious to how these will be activated. I obviously do not want the front sensors to be on whenever the battery is on. I am also not keen in installing a switch to activate / deactivate the sensors (I would do this as a worse case option and after looking at some of your pics, of how it came out!)

I actually had an idea - Whereby engaging the reverse gear would trigger / activate the front sensors (From a voltage source on the front of the vehicle), for say 3 minutes after going into reverse (A timed parking sensor). After that they could just go off, or will be reset to a 3 minute ON time, if the gear in reverse is engaged again.

How does that sound to you? I got the idea from my wife's 3 series, where the front parking activates (Along with the rear) once you activate the reverse gear (But then switches off, once the car crosses 10 Km/h).

I am desperate for a solution. I would be obliged if you could share your ideas or particularly front parking sensor installation experiences.
Thanks from Dubai!

On a two year old vehicle I can see why you would be reluctant to go with some of the aftermarket parking aid solutions.

Before dismissing the idea of OE completely, is it not worth investigating how easy this would be to retrofit?

Jaguar wiring harnesses usually have the necessary links for all the options. It makes for lower production costs to fit one type of harness and ignore the connectors that aren't needed rather than a different harness for every specification.

From the Parts Catalogue, it appears your vehicle will already have the Control Module-Rear Parking Aid fitted.

To retrofit you would need to fit the four front sensors and substitute the Control Module-Front/Rear Parking Aid for the existing Rear only only one.

As with any module change on modern Jaguars, it would need configuring on the dealer diagnostics or by an independent with similar facilities.

The Module is approximately £120 in the UK but I know Jaguar parts costs can vary considerably around the World which may put this idea out of the question in Dubai.

Wow Graham - Thanks for the stellar information. I will call my dealer tomorrow and ask for the parts.

The parts prices in Dubai are very comparable to the UK, BUT - It's the labor for installation which is just ridiculous, especially when the labor here is far lower paid.

I will check and get back to you. Are there any prices for the 4 sensors and the harnesses / wires that link up to the Control Module.

Also I noticed that the ones that came with the factory fit front / rear sensors, has the Parking Sensor Activate / Deactivate buutton in the roof, near the map lights. Mine does not have that, but will hopefully work fine and deactivate once the vehicle moves forward.

Any other members out there who have used Graham's solution or an alternative solution for the front parking sensors?

Thanks.
