Default Blown thermostat housing

Hi I'm new here I've got a 2008 2.7 xf only had i a week and the thermostat housing blow apart got a second hand put it on run up about 30min took i out for drive give it a little bit and its blown apart getting another one in the morning its looking like head gasket but is there anything else it could be and wheres the thermostat. The engine runs so well I'm hoping there's something. Any help when be much appreciated. Cheers

Thats the part I replaced but the new (2nd hand) part split when i took it for a drive and accelerated hard with in 30mins any ideas thanks for your help

Why would you use a 2nd hand part, youv'e just ended up with the same situation that you started with? The new part is only about £30??

I couldn't get one from any local motor factor. So I used the local jag breaker but you're right I'm no further forward.

Seems the engine is used in quite a few different models , not just Jag and the replacement costs are dirt cheap. I'm going to use the alloy one . Even if the plastic one doesn't burst but just leaks
it won't end pretty. Why put back something thats only going to break later?
