How worried should I be? - Fuel trim and O2 codes

I have owned my 2013 SCV8 for a month now.

Only 2500 miles on the clock.

On a trip to Chicago and back 2 weeks ago, I got a Fuel trim "engine light" code. I was on the back side of a 400 mile trip. After cruising at around 80mph for about 100 miles and the light came on.

I scanned it and since I am so far away from the dealer, reset/cleared it as the car was running fine.

Fast forward to yesterday, I get another "engine light". Figure it is for the same thing. Got home, scanned it but this time it is for a Bank 2 O2 sensor.

Again, car is running fine so I reset/clear it.

My first thought was to reset it and see if it comes back before I go to the hassle of calling the dealer and scheduling service. As I said, they are 90 miles away.

Any techs on here that can comment?

It's not running fine. It will be causing damage - hopefully only slowly.

I'd fix it very fast. Never ignore codes and clearing them makes sense when you fix the cause.

Agreed. 90 miles is a long way to drive with potential engine issues. Would suggest calling the dealer, explaining the codes and asking if you should drive or they should pick up with trailer. Then if you do permanent engine damage it was with their input and warranty protected.
Good luck

Update - after a week or so, I got another code.

Codes p0062 and p2277.

These both deal with the O2 sensors.

Turns out that there is a tech campaign/recall for this issue. It requires to have the ECM reflashed. The code listed on the invoice is "K309".

Without this flash, it can cause the O2 sensors to die and will require replacement.

Posting this for future tech support for those of you without factory Warrenty so you might be able to save some money diagnosing issues.

Yes there is a service action in place to reflash the 5.0L cars with Bosch ECU's, this includes the XF, XJ, F-Type as well as the Land Rovers and Range Rovers that run this engine.

Another forum member also reported similar symptoms with his F-Type. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-stock-153184/

Is a car described as "2013 Jaguar XF SCV8" bound to be a 5.0 then?

Would it also be bound to use the Bosch "ECU"?

Maybe a sticky defining what car is what for those who aren't sure / don't know would help current and future owners.

The front page of the TSB lists all the affected VINs. I don't have the document with me on this laptop unfortunately...

Cambo 11-18-2015 05:59 AM

OK as I said I don't have a copy of the document with me BUT it would affect;

All F-Type 5.0L models
XF 5.0L models from VIN S61362 onwards
XJ 5.0L models from VIN V39427 onwards

This is when the changeover to Bosch ECU's happened.

If you VIN is before those listed, then K309 does not affect your car, yet...

My 2012 XF Supercharged had an ECU update back in July 14. I checked the sticker and it says "ECU Flashed", Jaguar PLC Campaign J038. My VIN is S50XXX. I don't know if it's the same thing as K309. Anyone know?

I was talking with my Dealer's service today inquiring about extended warranties..found out I have till 2018 and/or 100,000 miles before I need to worry about anything...

However, while I was talking to him, he looked up my car and said I have two service recalls to come in for and have done...one was about the O2 sensors or system monitoring them (I am not expereincing any problems), but he said it is an ECM update or something like that...

Second he asked if I had a slight clunking noise or sound when I shifted into PARK?..And I do have that..sort of sounds like a grunt...he said that there is a TSB on reflashing the TCU to remedy that..and not to worry as it isn't hurting the transmission as it is..It just lessens some kind of internal pressure to stop the clunking/grunt noise....

That's what I like about my Dealer's Service, they are pro-active in my car's needs.

Take it in!

It's unrelated. This update only came out a few weeks ago. Also your car has a Denso ECU.

If you want to take it in why not. But the dealer will probably tell you it's not needed.

I spoke to the service advisor today on an unrelated matter and he mentioned that my car is due another ECU update so I'm guessing it's this. They are going to do it at the next service in January.

Cambo 11-20-2015 12:35 AM

Yeah sorry, I should have double checked it. It's all 3.0L and 5.0L models with Bosch ECU, here is a copy of the document.
