Default Maybe the water pump death rattle?

Changed my oil/filter today and after refilling I started up the engine and was contemplating my next project, upgrading the supercharger pulley.

Hands on the intake tubes and I can feel what feels like metal rubbing against metal. A bit of a rattle as well. But I couldn't determine if it was coming from the supercharger or water pump. No leaks, no antifreeze smell.

Called the dealer since I have an extended warranty - asking if they would take 5 and just check it out....

No sir, we'll fit you in next week (22nd nov). Drive it until then or if it becomes and emergency situation. Gotta love it.

Sound like the water pump failing? It's original afaik.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

If the water pump is not leaking. I would not worry, too much. Just keep a good eye on the water level in the expansion tank.

If the noise sounds mechanical, and a rattle. Then more likely to be the Isolator on the supercharger snout.

search threads, there is a u tube clip on one.

I would have your dealer check out the rattling. My water pump was caught by the dealer at the annual service a couple of years ago. It wasn't yet leaking but had what they described as a tell tale rattling noise. So they replaced under warranty.

Agreed. Great customer service in the long run - if I'd broken down with leaking water pump that would have dampened my impression of the car!
