New fascia finish. Didnt expect to like it!
I've been updating my 2010 XF, holding out for a new XE, so I've been re finishing the interior. I never really liked the light gray and especially hate the wood. Te previous owner was a bit rough on the door panels and handles and I've never been able to repair the gray leather pulls. The wood is not too bad in the doors but definately faded on the center ski slope. When I dyed all the doors and dash black. It really stood out AND I found many more cracks in the clear than the one I previously knew about. I actually left the upper lid open due to the obnoxious diagonal crack. I'm still pissed it has cracked at all!! And not covered under warranty. And they want $$$$$ for new set. Good old jag veneer!!
So I had a collection od vinyl wraps I've tested for other cars and pulled out some metallic black brushed titanium. Tried some carbon fiber too. The brushed titanium won out! So I removed each piece and wrapped, after sanding each crack since they were visible under the film. I always hated all the silver plastic around the ac and audio controls too so I painstakingly wrapped it as well!! (That's my favorite part!)
Unfortunately my brushed was cut the wrong direction so I didn't have the length to cover the long blade but I did have the carbon. So carbon it was!! I actually like the combination. I'm doing the doors in carbon as well for the same reason, long enough in brushed for back panels but not in front. I could use brushed but it would be verticle not horizontal.
Now before anyone beats me up, I too prefer the gloss finish wood or real carbon, but this is a financial decision and temp fix, although frankly it looks so clean and modern, I'll probably leave.
I have ordered some gloss black to try the blade and doors for a piano black look but the brushed is staying. It really sexy!!
