I'm doing electric exhaust cut outs!
OK, so I did the research and ordered low profile, oval electric exhaust cut outs from Dave at DMH. $399 shipped.
I think this will give me the aggressive sound I want, when I want it, without drone and cheaper than a custom exhaust system.
I'll take pics and post the process when I get done.
Should look something like this when complete:

I was thinking of going down this route too. I sometimes drive long journeys and having the ability to turn off the drone would be great and as you say they are relatively cheap.
Can't wait to see/hear your results.

Well Vector got his for $399, compared to an exhaust system it's not bad at all. I have read about reliability issues in some brands however, so it is worth your while to do a bit of research before committing to anything.

Hi, Victor
can you provide more detail about your system, it looks so nice and clean,
why everything looks so new and clean under your car, even the transmission pan like a brand new car

Rave- I did the research, DHL has a 4 year warranty and good reviews. QTP is the brand that had reliability issues.
Vince - that is not my car, I have not completed the project yet. I think that is a new Camaro. I posted the photo because the pipes on my XJR are routed in a very similar fashion. I'll post photos of my car when its done.

Does anyone have experience with exhaust cutouts in these computer-controlled cars? I would think the computer is programmed to expect a certain amount of back pressure, so I am not sure that bypassing the mufflers would necessarily yield more power.
But make a lot more noise, of course.

Requiring back pressure is a relatively new myth. It's more complicated than that.
When there is a problem, it is actually related to exhaust velocity and combustion chamber scavenging. But, it gets blamed on "back pressure" because that's what the installer thinks was reduced. It's like the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, passing overhead in an arc ... so the earth must be flat.

I am looking for "the sound" not more power, 370 HP is enough for me right now.
I don't think that the unmuffled sound of a twin cam V-8 could ever be called "noise." lol.

Here's what 2.5" x-pipe straight pipe with no mufflers sounds like.

I too was considering this sort of MOD but am awaiting to see the results before committing to the MOD, mainly because this sort of thing is Expensive in the UK.
The V8 was designed to be heard, why Jaguar muffled it to sound like a 4 cylinder I'll never know. :P

How good do these seal when new, then 1 year later??
Very interesting Jeckel and Hyde
After some kind of crossover, either X-pipe or H-pipe and further to the rear.
I don't know how well they seal, I haven't used them yet. I just have heard how the exhaust sounds on my car in several variations: no exhaust after the cats, an x-pipe ending halfway under the car, an x-pipe ending just short of where the rear mufflers would go, and the full x-pipe exhaust with one pair of flow through mufflers.

center muffler?! The X308 has a center muffler?? I think you removed your catilitic converter, lol!
this is a super cool idea, but if you are standing still the open-exhaust gasses are going to pool under the vehicle (which is a definite health hazard.) This kit would be best if it was wired to open from the WOT-sensor and then close about 2-3 seconds after the end of being in a WOT state. That would also scare the heck out of bystanders, cruise along quietly in the very-quiet muffled luxo-Jag and then let it rip with a 4-liter open exhaust!

The cats come right off the manifold and the "thing" I removed was definitely a muffler with two see through pipes and the typical muffling material between them.
Lots 'o' fun could be had with these for bystanders, tunnels, "etc" <----not incriminating myself

I think you could take 3 seconds off that time if the tranny wasn't filled with clay.
