I took the car to Jag this morning.
They want a lot of money to fix.
I can't rob a bank so I am looking into doing it myself
I got a list of parts etc that they say needs to be replaced...
I have replaced some of the items
Now I need to get some more...
One Item of note is the (AJ811713) which is the In-Let Gasket(S) 8 off...
And the other is the Pipe-Outlet (AJ89664)

I never replace the inlet gaskets because theyre large orings and have yet to see any collapsed. they are reusable. Just clean the head surface where the gaskets ride. I also use compressed air to blow odd debris dirt etc before I lift the intake.

+1 on cleaning the area around the inlet manifold prior to removing it.

Also, be sure to block off the inlet ports on the heads after the inlet manifold is removed so no foreign matter goes into the heads. Use rags or tape to block them off before cleaning the surfaces.

One has to remove this Inlet... to fit the AJ8 9664?

I wish that one didn't need to lift the inlet to fit the Pipe- Outlet (AJ8 9664)...

That’s correct. I also purchased the pipe that goes behind it and the o rings for it..

My worry is what could be causing the problem on the list that the dealership gave me.
i cannot believe that all the parts are giving hassles.
I commented on the pictures as I thought what may be the issues...

And does one really need to open/ possibly remove the inlet cover with the eight square seals when fitting the water outlet?

Aceman, I have done a water pump changeout. While you don't have to, doing it makes things a lot easier to do. The issue that you run into is you are trying to line up 3 different things and not being able to see what you are dong. By removing the intake, you can see everything get aligned and if all goes right, you only have to assemble things once. I tried doing the changeout without having to remove the intake. After about the 4th time of trying to make things work, I removed the intake and boom, done.

And while the inlet manifold is off, one may as well change, or at least check out, the 8 off square seals?!
And Jag is taking a "no risk" approach by changing all the other piping...?

Aceman, well, the hard plastic tubing you will find out will be very brittle. So, the least amount of twisting in the wrong direction will snap that tubing (TRUST ME!!!!!!) The small tubing (the piece with the gray plastic Y adapter and 6" of rubber tubing), that needs to be replaced if you are swapping out the factory water pump as they have re-routed some of the tubing and the vent for the water pump goes to a new spot. The large diameter rubber hose between the thermostat and the pump is just a good idea to replace since you have it all apart and this piece is also redesigned if you are swapping out the factory water pump (as I recall).

I agree that I should not need a laundry list of parts to replace when doing a simple job like a water pump. But, Jaguar redesigned the water pump due to early failures. So, they are trying to reduce the pressure seen on the water pump seal (as I understand things).

It seems then that maybe I've got an old design water pump..?
I say this because the new water pump went on very easy and no pipes had to be re routed...

I will take it on note and get the pipes etc when I re-try fitting the pump sometime next week.
If all goes according to plan...

To the best of my knowledge, if the water pump is stamped FoMoCo (mfg Germany) it's the old style. If its stamped Jaguar and Land Rover (mfg Italy) it is the newer style.

Chris this is not correct. The new style tube and reroute is when the little plastic tube that breaks often in the front of the water pump has to be replaced. Then you get the 2 new style pieces as replacement. And for those doing your own I would have these pieces and change them regardless because if the break you will then be waiting on the new style parts. also the end of that tube often breaks off inside the pump fitting and while you can put back in it wont lock and will blow out sometime in the future. I know what to look for but get a lot of coolant leaks from owners that went to other shops for repairs and they did not know the tube was shorter than new and had broken. And then start leaking at that fitting. Yes the latest pump no longer say Fomoco anymore.

Hi Guys
It seems looking at the pics that I have the new pump.
The machining where the tube goes is my give away.
I clearly remember it.
But I cannot see there being any problems fitting the old hoses and pipes...
I fitted all the pipes to the pump and there didn't seem to be any problem..................................
Maybe that's where the problem is
I may be missing the leaker

I seem to have the large part on the car and it seems to run under the intake manifold...

the drawing is the outlet right side up as installed on the engine. Just does not show the long neck. and put a dash- after the AJ8-

Hey man, reading your post. I am going through this very thing right now. How did this turn out for you? Did you remove the intake manifold?

I had the dealer inspect and they told me the tube under the intake manifold was leaking. I don't know the part number. Do you have it?
