@ Dochands. Same deal I did with JLR and my cost was @ $400. They do the 90% so there is spare parts warranty on the switches as if they pay 100% and a switch goes bad it's now your dime to replace any failed switch.

Since my 2014 XJL was out of the factory warranty the Service Bulletin did not apply, my dealer offered to clean them up and make them better. I figured I could do a better job, which I have. Using this process leaves the buttons very smooth and definitely enhances the appearance of the interior.

Here is what I did.

Step 1: Sprayed Griots Interior Cleaner on to a rag and then saturated the surface of the button I wanted to clean, doing one surface at a time is much easer.

Step 2: Using a nylon spudger, so as to not scratch the button surface, began scraping the button surface. Immediately the clear sticky surface began to come off in white clumps.

Step 3: After I felt all the coating was removed from the button I sprayed some Griots Cleaner on a stiff tooth brush and cleaned the surface and grooves around the edge of the button. Wipe with clean cloth, if any coating remains scrape with spudger.

Step 4: Clean the surface with Isopropyl alcohol, remove any remaining residue with the tooth brush..

Step 5: Wipe surface with spray speed wax, I use Garage One Speed Wax

Not covered under the extended warranty.

Correct not covered by extended warranty this is an accommodation that JLR will grant via the CSR to good customers that use their dealership for maintenance and repairs. And also may have purchased at a dealership.

Ill be picking mine up today from the dealer. Jaguar of Austin is the worst. So much attitude. Sincerely wish I had an alternative in Austin.

I’ll let everyone know how the buttons feel. The dealer did say only the 2011 had this problem. Not sure if that is correct.

The dealer is wrong. My 2013 had the issue and Jaguar covered the full replacement per above referenced TSB.

They often are. There is a rumor of another dealership opening in North Austin. I pray that is correct.

So buttons done. Now a nice satin finish. No longer rubberized. I can see why this was expensive. They also had to replace the piano varnish surround of the display and the selector nob as well as all the buttons and volume nob. Cost me $400 out of pocket which is the presumed 10% Jaguar made me pay. This was a non warranty repair. Apparently the extended warranty did not cover it so it was Jaguar’s discretion to replace their defective materials.

It's called a "goodwill accommodation" and they may give only one to a good customer. Your cost was as I had predicted, enjoy.

You only need 2 things to clean the failed coating off of your dash and console switches. Patience and Goo Gone. I used an old hand towel. The Goo Gone does not harm the labels on the switches and leaves them shiny clean. Try to glob the sticky substance into little balls and pull them off. Once the bulk of it comes off the switch easily shines up like new with a little more work. You can CAREFULLY use a wooden toothpick to poke any remnants out of the cracks. I prefer this over some dealer techs completely removing and reassembling my dash and console. I want my JAG assembled in the UK.

I found a remedy for the sticky button issue on YouTube, and it actually worked! I used face wipes and with some rubbing, it came off and left the buttons smooth without taking off the white print. It only took me an hour and a half to clean every button in the car. It was well worth the time and effort!

which face wipes? Like the Oxy kind for acne?

Ive been using a combination of the interior-safe Goo Gone mentioned in this thread, and an old gift card to basically just scrape the goop off, but that method isnt going to work for all the buttons.

I used 91% Isopropyl alcohol and a soft cloth and a cue tip to get to difficult edges/corners. Sticky surface came right off after a few rubs and no damage to the under surface.

I used what I had, but the YouTube video used Neutrogena brand wipes. Basically, you scrape the sticky residue to the edge with pressure from your finger with the wipe, and then wipe it away from the edge also using the wipe. I went through multiple wipes to accomplish this.

They are a smooth, hard plastic, not the rubbery feel of the old buttons. Mine were replaced under factory warranty, requiring 15 parts to be ordered.
