hi all, new to the forum and thanks for having me.
im hoping some clever people on here can help me.
my jaguar xj 2010 5.0 supersport engine has catastrophically failed, block etc is totally destroyed....im looking around for another engine, would an engine from an xfr 2011 fit my xj? i think from what the seller told me i may have to swap the sump? could anyone confirm or deny this? thankyou

Keep searching this forum as it has been done BUT there are some things that need to be swapped over from your old engine. This varies with what year the car is too.

I believe, don't hold my feet to the fire, the AWD 5.0 had a different sump that accomindated the trans case. Other than that, and a reduced oil capacity, I believe they are the same engines.

Yep, the sump pan and one or two other things are different AWD vs RWD.
BUT the XFR never came as AWD it was only ever RWD and I don't think the 2010 XJ V8SC ever came in AWD either, so a 2011 XFR engine should be a straight swap in although there may be some hassles with wiring harnesses and module coding, ECU/PCM/TCM etc.

Good info as I can't keep up with all the various details. I have seen several 5.0L engines swapped but there was always some additional problems they had to work out.
