Default 19" wheel specs for my Super V8

I am thinking of downgrading the wheels or my Super V8 Portfolio 2006, going from 20" to 19".

I am currently running bigger tyres than normal (255/40 R20) on my 20" Calliso's to have a slightly smoother ride, but that is not acceptable wrt to technical control (MOT) and insurance in case of accidents here in Belgium.

If I want to drive with my 20" rims, I will have to use the homologated tyres' dimensions that are 255/35 R20.
That will be firmer and also more risky for the wheels (that I want to preserve) when potholes.

So that I am considering buying an additional 19" set to be able to drive on 255/40 R19 tyres, with a comfort equivalent to the present one.

I have the possibility to acquire a nice set of 19" wheels that have all the required specs but the width, which is larger than spec: 9.5" instead of 8.5".
I know that I could mount 255/40 R19 tyres without problems on 9.5" wide rims but I am concerned by risks that too wide a rim may interfere with suspensions or steering on the front.

Does anybody have experience of fitting 19x9.5 wheels on X350/358?

9.5 is fine in the rear: even 10s from 2011+ fit nicely.

Not sure about fronts; widest I've done up front is the 8.5 or 9.

If the wheels you are considering are staggered in som way, it should be fine.

Thanks -

Thank you for the reply.
I have read the threads about wider tyres on the rear and I understand that up to 285's or even 295's (maybe depending on the tyre's brand) may be accomodated under the wheel arches without fouling; then requiring rims up to 10" wide.
So that 9.5" wide rims on the rear would not be an issue.

The set I am contemplating is non staggered and my concern is the front.
For the X350/358, Jaguar specifies 8.5x19 rims for the 255/40 R19 tyres all around and wider 9x20 rims for the 255/35 R20 tyres all around.
But even on staggered sets (e.g. XKRs'), one never sees rims wider than 8.5" or 9" on the front and/or tyres wider than 255, maybe to keep a responsive steering and/or to avoid clearance issues.

In principle one can put without stretch a 255/40 R19 tyre on a 9.5" wide rim.

But I am wondering if there there would be clearance issues with the suspension and steering components on the front under full lock with 9.5" rims.
Any experience with it is welcome.

edit: the offset is ET 50 so very close to the regular ET 49 for X350/358

I've seen examples of 9.5" wide wheels on the fronts of other Jaguar models (XKR & F-Type). Since the front suspensions are very similar, the fitment should be fine. Easiest way to tell would be to compare the wheel position of the most positive offsets (stock) vs the most negative (usually aftermarket). Also there's a few members with wheel spacers, so the width shouldn't be a problem. The only other issue might be the difference in grip from having wider tires in the front that would change your understeer/oversteer.

Thank you for the advice and link.
I have looked at such calculations, they indicate the variations in size, occupied space, weight, etc. but they do not and cannot inform on the tolerance of the new fitment wrt to the clearance on the vehicle.

Basically I understand that a 9.5" wide rim with the same offset would occupy 1/4 inch more width than a 9.0 wide rim like the 20" Callisto, on the inside and the outside.
I am not concerned by a possible arch fouling on the outside (or the inside) because the tyre development (perimeter and even width) would be exactly (or close to) the same.

But the issue is more the possibility of the wider alloy itself to interfere with the suspension and steering components on the inside at full lock (there is plenty of space on the outside).
This is what happens e.g. in a XJS normally equipped with 7.0 wide rims when 8.0 wide rims of the XJ40 with the same offset are used: to avoid it, 5 mm spacers are needed in the front (no issues on the rear).
And I would not like to use spacers.

The sole feeback I found on this forum on a similar issue is when somebody asked if it would be possible to install "rear" wider rims of an XK (with "front" slimmer tyres) on the front:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-wheels-62561/

For the XK, it was said to be possible, at the expense of somewhat heavier steering because of a more stretched tyre and heavier wheel. But I believe that this could be aceptable in my case.
What I would like to know before buying the wheels is if there is enough clearance in the X350 font wheel well to avoid spacers.
