Charcoal Canister?
Our 2004 VDP showed a check engine light that read a minor evap leak. If we were lucky it was a gas cap or just a hose, but a smoke test pointed to some ventilation filter that is part of the charcoal canister, so we were looking at a $400 canister and 6 hours of labor to drop the rear suspension at $84 per hour.
We are also being told that other than having a problem for inspection sticker with check engine light on, this isn't a big deal. This filter/canister is involved with exhausting unburnt fuel, I'm told. Can anyone shed some light on this, especially if there's another solution. Thank you! |
Hi yes its more likely to be the purge valve the purge valve controls what goes in an out of the carbon canister an these do tend to fail i was told a simple way to rule the carbon canister out is to pull 1 of the pipes off that go in to it but unsure if this works

I did see another poster with similar diagnosis, but he was quoted 10 hours of labor from shop. Can't believe this isn't accessible without dropping suspension.
